Interesting Statistics

not really, i know some people i went through grad school with that were idiots. They may have done awesome on standardized tests, but their knowledge of real world applications was garbage.

Hence limiting themselves to the realm of academia.

Yes, grad students are smarter than the AVERAGE college grad. The average college graduate is going to have a hard time getting into graduate school. Of course, you are probably thinking of University of Phoenix when YOU speak of grad schools. You continuing to debate this makes you look really foolish.

this is assuming that those who apply to grad schools are of average intelligence and that high grades in undergrad strongly correlate to higher intelligence. those who have other options generally dont' become career students.

To be fair... it completely depends on the line of work.

So you know SOME that were idiots. I would say that was an exception and not the rule. Again, you are painting broad strokes based on YOUR LIMITED knowledge of the issue. Most grad students aren't idiots, but you know better

ok, all the ones that were not already classroom teachers were idiots with no common sense what so ever about real world applications. The ones that did were already classroom teachers.

i am saying exactly what you are saying, but from the other side of the fence, and you are saying I am dumb. Do they teach debate at The University of Awesomeness? If they do, you need to take a class or two

yes physical violence. always the sign of a superior individual.

YOu have made so many ignorant statements today. You should stop. You have NO idea what you are talking about when you say people go to graduate school because they have no other options. You are one clueless individual and I wouldn't let you invest one dime for me.

The job market has digressed in the past few years, so more people are going to grad school becase they cannot get a job with just a bachelors.

Exactly. Droski has NO idea what he is talking about.

Eh, I'd say you really threw the first stone when you said you knew more smarter people (or whatever it was that you said) because you work at a school.

That had no bearing on anything factual. I'd say there are more intelligent people with BS/MS working at a GE plant designing a jet engine than there are PhDs in your schools Psychology Department.

I wouldn't go as far as he did with the "no other options" statement but many of the best and the brightest can see their value in their prospective fields. Likewise the best employers looking for those individuals see those prospective employees and target them. Many of them go rather than invest large sums of money that might not make them more appealing in the "real world". I will concede that a lot of this is dependent on your area of study or expertise.

hence the term "generally"

Only really because quite a few degrees are generally worthless. And attaining them has no bearing on the intelligence of the pursuer.

In the matter of Math, Physics, Engineering, etc... it's quite a bit different.

You are out of context with this. Go back and read the thread in sequence.

No one said any differently. I didn't say anything about the intelligence level of the Phds I know.

This

"I know more about smart people THAN you. I work for one of the top academic universities in the country."

doesn't really change my stance at all.

Yes, ABSOLUTELY had everything to do with facts. As I stated earlier(if you would bother to go back and actually read this thread in sequence) the incoming freshmen at this school have an average gpa of over 3.9 and average ACT of 31. I would say those are two pretty telling statistics into one's intelligence.

Yet you cannot explain, nor even tried to discuss MI

So far, this has been a factual debate on the side of truefan and myself. While nothing more than emotion and opinion has come from the other side. Too funny.
