iPhone

Has anyone else been fraudulently charged for "in-app" purchases? I just noticed that for the second time in a couple months my account was drained for an app (and subsequent add-ons) that I never requested or was even aware of. The first time was for 10k in poker chips and this time is for some Kingdom conquest game.

Apple will take care of it but it's a pain in the butt. Thankfully, I cancelled my card on file and never added a new one after the first incident.

I ran into a similar issue with my daughter's ipod touch. She was playing some game and did not realize she was making any sort of in game purchases. To me, it is very "scam-ish".

If you go into your general settings and look under "restrictions", you can turn off In-App purchases so it will prompt you for your itunes password every time it is going to purchase something.

Never had an issue with being charged for something I didn't buy. I have to enter my password to download any app whether free or not & also to update.

Thanks, just did that on my phone. However, both times it's happened to me was after I updated apps in iTunes on my laptop. And...I had never downloaded the actual apps in question to begin with. Apple tried to give me a hard time for this second occurrence but I wouldn't agree. This afternoon they agreed to reverse the charges.

Won't have my first smart phone till saturday. Will either be iPhone or Incredible 2. Either way I am going to upgrade my Dish Network reveiver and install "Dish remote". Will be able to watch full programming on my phone any where I go. No different than what I see at home.

I bought an eyeTV and it works great for streaming video from my home cable and also allows me to schedule and watch recordings remotely. The iPhone and iPad apps work very well. I use it For watching live tv on the go more than I thought I would.

I'm sure you will enjoy whichever phone you choose.

Getting your first smartphone compares to getting your first HDTV. No matter what the brand or specs you're gonna love it.

I've done alot of research and trips to the local store this week. Top two phones from independent sources (phonescoop.com for one) seem to be the iPhone and for Android the HTC Incredible2. Same price for me at Verizon. My only drawback is my crappy XP computer at home. Will be less apt to hooking my phone up to update and get music. Incredible allows me to upgrade battery and memory card without sending phone off or driving an hour to the closest store. I am really interested in the iPhone for multiple reasons, but am not willing to lay the extra $100 out for the 32 gig and not sure how long the 16 gig will suffice. And the screen is 4" instead of 3.5 in a device of near identical size.

Sounds like the Android may be the choice for you. How does the battery life compare?

You can get music on the iPhone without hooking up to a pc you just have to purchase through the iTunes app. I also have the 16 gb 3GS that I've had going on 2 years that has close to 100 songs & over 100 apps & I have exactly 10.0 gb available. If your battery starts going bad in less than a year it's covered under the warranty. Just because there's an update on the phone don't necessarily mean you have to have it.

Seems to be pretty close. Edge probably to iPhone, since they don't have all the auto apps in the background you have to keep killing to get that life. Definitely one of the best batery life on androids. Then again, my stepson has a laptop he does all his stuff on. Can you download music over the air on iPhone or do you have to do computer then transfer.

The build quality on the iPhone seems to be top notch. It doesn't feel cheap.

The frustrating part is not getting straight info from the sales people. Verizon pushes Androids heavily. They will give every reason possible not to go with iPhone. That's why I've been hittin it so heavy in here.

iPhone comes with a few pre-loaded apps. You have an app store app. You have an iTunes app & a few others. YES you can buy music & download over the air although some larger music files require being connected to wifi. You need an iTunes account set up to download any app or music. To buy music or purchase apps you need a valid credit card registered or an iTunes gift card number. To download anything you will have to enter your iTunes password that will be prompted whenever you click to download or purchase anything.

You'll get the exact opposite with AT&T. You could be looking for a cheap phone for calls and texting and they will try to sell you an iPhone.

Used to have all that current when my step son had his ipod. Need to update that. He does his own account now. I'm not super big on MP3'ing so that should be a minor issue for me anyway. We do have wireless router as well. So, prob will connect to that more at home. My desk top just sucks. Have to run ubuntu. XP is contaminated. Wife loaned disk out so I haven't re-freshed the load. Can't remember who has it. Too old to upgrade to Win7.

Only time you need to connect is for updates & every little update really isn't necessary. Only significant update was about a year ago going from iOS3 to iOS4. The next will be in September when iOS5 is released & after that there will be no need to connect to a pc again because you can do everything on wifi.

Thanks. That helps alot. I'm sure stability is not really a factor on the iPhone operating system like it can be on droids.

what stability issues? Also droid has always had over the air updates and they still don't require wifi.
