iPhone

Depending on which version you have, you may have reached the limit on software updates. My old iPad 1 will not update anymore and some apps won't run with the old iOS versions, therefore making it junk.

I did read the other day that Apple is now allowing older devices to download older versions of apps. Not sure if that applies to pre iOS 6 or not. Hope it does. I've got an iPod touch that maxed out at 4.3(?). I wanted to put some kid friendly apps on it to let my 2 year old play with it but not much works on it anymore.

Update went smoothly for me - iPhone 4S running iOS 5.?

I did it via a hard connection to iTunes (11) on my iMac. 10 minutes or so.

Dropped my 4s in water this weekend. Kept in rice for 48 hours. It will power on only while plugged in. Won't connect to wifi or cell phone towers. Am I screwed?

Probably so. Went to the apple store this weekend due to wifi being greyed out (no other problems). They could tell it had slight water damage by just looking in the charge port...don't ask me how. I think Verizon gives you $200 for your 4s if you upgrade. Enjoy your new phone.

I've got AT&T.

They can tell because they have little white strips on the battery port and on the coax port that turns red if submerged. I can see both of mine. They are both red.

anybody having battery issues with 7. I had zero issues till the d/l. Now I run out of battery by lunchtime. Again, I NEVER had this issue before the d/l. TIA

Pretty sure Apple will fix/replace it for $149 or $179 or something like that. Water damage is not considered damaged beyond repair but you'll have to pay. It's only $49 if you have AppleCare if I'm not mistaken.

My wife is having the same problem. I was having similar problems before the update. I took my phone into Apple and they said my battery was failing. Replaced it with a brand new phone.

This was about 10 days ago before I dropped it in the water this weekend.

Well siri doesn't work. She doesn't respond to me. It's like the mic isn't working, but it is.

Voice calls are good and can leave voice memos as well.

Probably want to back up, reset, test, then restore your data. (Assuming restarting the phone didn't help)

Yeah, wish I had purchased applecare.

I looked into AppleCare and it seems like an absolute rip off. It does extend the warranty to 2 years, which I guess is nice. Although, I had a used 3 and a used 3gs and never had a single problem with them for years. I've only had trouble with my 4s so I have had to use that warranty twice already.

But the price of AppleCare for Iphone 4s is $99 and if I break the phone (which I did) I'd have to pay $79 for a new one. I went to the store yesterday (w/o AppleCare) and they offered me a new phone for $199.

So if I had AppleCare it would have saved me $20. But if nothing would have happened to my phone, I'd be out $99. So all applecare really does is gets you to pay 1/2 price of a phone (that you may or may not need) upfront and then they charge you the 2nd 1/2 when you do break it but throw in a $20 discount.

is that a "new" phone for 199.99?

also u are lucky to live in an area that has an apple store, as well have time to devote to going there.

79.99 is great for a brand new oob iphone

Yeah, he said new phone. Who said anything about 79.99 for a brand new iphone?

That is the price for a new phone if you break your iphone and you have applecare. However, that is after purchasing applecare for $99 when you initially get your phone.

From what I can tell, $199 for a new phone is the best I'm going to be able to do since I'm 14 months away from a new contract. I'd really like to find a family member or friend who is upgrading to the 5s and willing to sell me theirs but I haven't found it yet.
