iPhone

Maybe I should go into a store and see off I can find a cool employee to hook me up. I'm self employed so don't have any agreements
Also check association memberships, I know that there are discounts for things like VA, AFL-CIO, etc. You basically just bring in that proof to a corporate store for your carrier and they apply the discount.

Is there a list online that I can check?

Unfortunately, not really. Carriers don't post it and rates and discounts are always being tinkered with. Just look up any group you're a member of and dig to see if they offer a discount.

My wife get a 22% discount through work. It only applies to the main line and not the data package.

We had to switch her to the primary line. That wasnt a hassell at all.

That's about what mine is but as I've upgraded the 3 iPhone lines they offered a 20% discount per line on data packages as well. So the 2 with 2GB of data plans that use to be $25 are actually $20 each. My unlimited line that was initially $30 is now $24.

I'm bummed because honestly the only way to save money is never upgrade your phone. Once its time to upgrade, they get you by the short and curly's.

How do you figure? All your paying is for a new phone that's subsidized & renewing a contract for a phone you're gonna have anyway. Most times you can get the upgrade/activation fee waived. Your plan never changes unless you want it to & you can do that at anytime. The stickler is you can't go back to a plan you liked if its no longer available.

Well, I'm paying $270 now. With AT&T mobile share with 10 gb, I would be paying $175 as long as I never upgrade my phone. Once I do, I either go on contract and pay $40 a month per line, or do the AT&T Next and keep the $15 per line BUT pay $30ish per phone a month.

Honestly, as long as the data plan fits, it's probably the best way to go. You save a ton right now, and at worst you're close to where you're already at.

Confused...you're saying stay with the plan I have now or switch? Once anyone upgrades, then end up paying as much if not more than what their share is now (we split up the bill evenly 5 ways)

The only reason to stay where you're at is if the unlimited data gets used, basically if everybody uses more than 10GB combined.

And the bill only goes back to where you're at if everybody upgrades.

I'm probably making the switch to T-Mobile. At least while I'm here in Alaska. Their coverage is better than Verizon's(everybody's is up here), and I'll save $40 a month.

I have a line with tmobile. Their coverage isn't the best everywhere but the LTE is really fast where it's available.

I'm here for 3 years. After that I'll likely go back to Verizon. I finally found the place where Verizon sucks, Alaska.

I would say we avg around 8 gb a month with 2-3 months having gone over slightly 10 gb over the last year. If we go with 10gb and everyone upgrades, our total would actually go up. For sure if we mobile share and do contracts, it would go up $30 a month. Likely we would have to do 15gb to be safe, especially considering it would open tethering, something I know I would use. That's my thinking, but I could be missing something?

We get the same. 22%. But it covers the entire package plus accessories (Verizon)

And her work pays 75 bucks a month toward our bill because she uses it for work.

Hers applies to accesories too. It used to cover the whole bill but at some point they changed it. You may be grandfathered in or sonething idk.

That $75 stipend would be nice. But other than texting coworkers occasionally she doesnt really use hers for work.

My wife is in management so they call her all the time. ( may be the difference)

The 75 bucks definitely helps out.

We probably avg. around 8 gb a month over the last year, but 2-3 months we did go over 10 gb slightly. If we went the 10gb sharing route, that's $100 plus $15 per line ($175). Which is great as long as we always keep our phone. If we decide to upgrade and then do a 2 year contract, then total bill would be $300. If we did the next plan, figuring $30 per phone "financing", then it comes out to even more money (figuring $30 plus $15 per line). And we lose unlimited data.

So seems to me that the only way to save alot of money over the old family talk plan is never upgrade your phone...but I readily admit I might be misunderstanding something.
