iPhone

It looks like there is a "unofficial" version that is compatible.

BTW...really appreciate the patience and help with us newbies.

OK...I know it used to be that you could get the tethering to work but only for a little while. I know I asked this before, but if you jailbreak, do you have access to the ios apps as well? Does itunes match, mail, etc stay the same?

Yep everything works like normal. It just opens it up for tweaks and such that Apple doesnt allow (but have slowly integrated with each iOS update).

I updated my iPhone and downloaded the latest evasion 7-1.0.6 but I can't get the program to open. Any suggestions?

It should say extract when you double click on it. Click extract & another window pops up. Double click it again & the actual program box pops up. After that plug up your phone, when it recognizes the device the jailbreak button will become bold & click it. Then just wait. At one point it will prompt you to unlock your phone & touch the evasion icon. Oh yea disable any pass code locks before you start.

ok. Got it to open. Run the process and get the envision logo app on the phone. Tap it. It reboots and the evasion program on my mac closes automatically. But I don't see the cydia program anywhere on my phone...

Don't tap it until it tells you. The program will tell you when to unlock & tap it.

Stupid question...if I turn off pass lock, why would I need to "unlock" my phone? It wouldn't ask for a passcode.

nevermind...stupid question.

You need to disable passcode in settings. If you don't have touch ID or a passcode enabled don't worry about it. When it says unlock phone & tap the envasion icon you push the home button, slide your finger to the right on the lockscreen to open the phone, find the icon & touch it.

So here is what happens:

I goes thru the process of rebooting my phone once I hit the evasion icon. Then it asks me to unlock my phone again. I do that and then the program says modifying root and then closes. I never see any evasion screen on my phone or any "successfully done" on the evasion program. Thoughts?

When it tells you to unlock your phone & tap the icon it isn't finished so not sure. If you still have the envasion icon delete it like a normal app & run the program again. If it's successful the program will say jailbreak complete & probably be rebooting again.

Tried it several times. Even restored the phone to the backup. The program gets to the last stage and says "modifying rootfs" and the the program goes away, like it is crashing. I did the ios update (7.0.6) over the wifi and apparently I was supposed to do the update thru itunes instead for some reason. Well I guess it it too late now.

Of course I have the one pain in the a$$ jailbreak...

The program on your mac will not close automatically. The progress bar will be filled and it will say "finished" (or something like that).

Maybe try redownloading evasion.

Another option is restoring your phone to factory via iTunes. Then jailbreak. Downside to that option is it will be a hassle to re download all your apps and adjust any settings you changed. If you go that route just make sure youve uploaded your pics to your mac, saved any important info you may need from your texts, and turned on icloud for calendars, contacts, and notes.

The farthest I get with the program is it will say "modifying rootfs" and then it shuts down on my computer. I had to say it crashes because I don't get the normal mac warning that you get when a program crashes. I've redownloaded evasion and same result.

When you say restore phone to factory, if I've made a backup of the phone, will that save everything I need? As mentioned before, I've already upgraded to ios 7.0.6 but did it thru wi-fi. Is there a way to take it back to a previous version so I can "start over"?

Or you can restore to factory settings as new, jailbreak, then apply the back up. Myself I always set up as new anymore & it's not that much of a hassle. As long as you have iCloud on your notes, mail, contacts & such will be backed up. I always save new pics to my laptop before I do any update or get a new phone. Then when you get ready to set up just sign in & turn on iCloud. Go into App Store & go to purchases, it'll be in the update section. Every app you ever downloaded will be in there just pick the ones you want. Usually a good cleaning process to dump ones you never use. As for pics just plug up phone & launch iTunes. Click on your devices then go to photos & sync the ones you want.

Will that take me back to where I was, iOS wise? I'm feeling the issue is the fact I went from 7.0.3 to 7.0.6 over wifi and not connected to itunes

It's never mattered to me which way even though they say connecting to iTunes is best. Just connect to iTunes & restore.

My son knocked my phone out of my hand today. Hit the tile pretty hard. Screen is fine and seems to be working ok but now there is a distinct rattle inside the phone when I shake it. I hope it isn't anything serious. I was really hoping to hold out until the 6.

Finally took a few minutes to add some JB tweaks.

TetherMe - Free tethering. I've used this one with every jailbreak since iOS 5. Works great.
CCControls - Basically the same as the old SBSettings but integrated into iOS 7's control center. Although, I don't like how it rearranges some of the most used toggles (bluetooth and wi-fi) down the slider, making them less convenient.
SwitchSpring - lets you kill all apps at once, similar to the old KillBackground tweak. Also gives the option to restart the Springboard (which is in CCControls too).

So nothing major. Just some basics.

I used PDAnet to tether before. Haven't installed this time yet. The stock control center does all I need, pretty much only used sbsettings to turn on/off wifi. Movie box & bitesms alone are worth jailbreaking IMO.

I can get the 5s for $1. Should I do it, or save my upgrade for the 6?

Depends. If you like the size if the 5, and don't have any interest in a bigger screen, go with the 5s. If an iPhone the size of a Samsung Galaxy is something you'd really like, it would make sense to hold out for the 6.

I never took to biteSMS. It disrupted the iMessage sync between iPhone, Mac, and iPad. I text a lot between devices.
