iPhone

I did that and it's still having issues. Many of my customers have the same issues.

Having all of my friends with iPhones delete and reenter my contact info is not a viable solution.

My wife had the same issue when she went from iphone to galaxy note. I did all the steps apple recommended to no avail. The only solution I found that works is to change the "send as SMS if iMessage is not available" to on.

It was an obvious pain in the ass for her to let all of her contacts know to change that setting if they have a iphone, but it "resolve" the issue.

Surely Apple could change the default setting
for that feature to "on" in one of their updates.

iOS 8 announced today. Nothing really Earth shattering. Mostly just more Android/Jailbreak catch-up.

-New Quicktype feature adds predictive text to the stock keyboard but they also opened it up to third party keyboards as well.

-Widgets in Notification Center.

-Responding to Messages inside other apps and home screen (biteSMS for Jailbreakers).

The OSX news was more exciting. They are really pushing device syncing to a new level with "Continuity". Devices "know" what each other is doing when in proximity allowing you to pick up exactly where you left off when switching devices. So if you are in the middle of writing an email on your phone an icon will appear on your Mac. Hit that icon and you are right in the middle of that email.

iPhone can push phone calls to Mac and iPad now and Airdrop works between iOS and OSX.

In case anyone is wondering, I went ahead and gave up iOS 7.0.6 and the Evaders jailbreak to try the Pangu jailbread for iOS 7.1.x. So far, so good. I haven't had any issues.

Braver than I am. Not sure I trust anything coming out of China.

I installed iOS8 beta 4 last night (along with OS X Yosemite beta on my Mac). Haven't played with it extensively yet though.

So far I can see it fells a little quicker. They definitely amped up the animations. Some cool features in messages like the voice text, do not disturb by thread and easy overview of attachments in thread.

They have made several things a little more accessible too like favorites/recent contacts in the multitasking view.

I was disappointed to find out that my 2011 Mac is too old for the Handoff feature. Although, it did push some SMS messages to my computer this morning. Unfortunately it didn't let me send SMS back out.

Who has updated to ios 8?

I thought i would give a 3rd party keyboard a shot, Swiftkey. Not sure how I feel about giving it full access to record my keystrokes. The warning was awful scary.

I updated. Not all that impressed yet. Looks like minor tweaks from what I've seen/used so far.

Its not as dramatic as 6 to 7 was. Messages took a step forward with audio and video messaging. Being able to respond from the drop down notification in other apps without leaving the app. Also the access to sending pictures is improved.

Then there are extensions which add widgets to notifications but those are dependent on the app developers. I don't think there are too many yet.

Siri works a lot better too.

Swiftkey works great. It's been a little buggy when using on other apps though.

I'm looking forward to seeing apps add their own notification center widgets. Some great ones have already come out today.

Messaging and Safari are about all I've used since the update

That warning about the keyboard manufacturer having access to ALL of your data is a bit bothersome.

And Milo, I think it's different when one company like apple or google has all of your data, but when you start giving it out to multiple keyboard software developers -- many of whom I've never heard of -- that's on a different level, imo.

Granted. It's not like SwiftKey is some fly by night operation, though. Owning a smartphone requires that you turn over a great deal of info. Just show a little judiciousness with app downloads, and you're fine.

Yes. Swiftkey has been around the block before and they are pretty well-known. So I don't really have a problem with them. But I'm sure a bunch of no name developers will be releasing keyboard extensions and I will be avoiding those.

One bright side, the world button lets you easily switch back to the default keyboard if you are entering sensitive info.

I'm starting to get the hang of swift key. There is a bug that keeps reverting the keyboard back to the default one though. Instinctively start using it.

Anyone one else having issues uploading pics since doing the update?

I can't seem to get them to upload.
