Is it time to drop the extra federal unemployment money?

to anyone serving or considering being a server, if the company operates like this or wants to operate like this, leave and find a new place.

A server's tips should always be a server's tips, period. And when ownership butts in to take it and distribute it, for whatever reason, fraud usually happens.

you earn what you earn. It should be that simple

Too bad this attitude doesn’t apply when it comes to taxes.

thats cause you had me pigeon-holed, incorrectly. Not all liberals are socialists. Very few are actually, which is why the socialist candidate never wins, despite what Fox News and the Reality TV guy says

Plenty of socialist candidates have won. Trump was the previous one. Since I have been paying attention we get more and more socialist no matter who is elected.

It was the basis of a different argument in another thread. People, even the red hatters here, dont care that we are socialist. They just care about which particular projects get socialist support. Look at the wall. They dont care that Trump lied about it, or its inefficiency, or the money spent, land grabbed by the government from private owners. Because its socialism they support.

Its hero worship. They worship trump, he could be for anything and any project and they would support him

There's a hotel in Atl where we hold business mtgs. The waitstaff are employed by a subcontractor who contracts with the hotel. They hold all their tips from credit card and room charges once they meet minimum wage per hour calculated by pay and tips. So, we started tipping cash so they can keep all of it. They love us.

Wait... from what I understand, the "tip share" thing works on a system based off of ticket sales. So in other words, if a server or bartender does $1000 on sales on a particular shift, then a certain percentage of that $1000 is automatically placed in the tip pool. Lets say for example, a server has a $1000 day, if the company has a 15% tip out, then that server at the end of the day has to put in $150. If the server didn't make but $100 in tips, then they owe $50. If the server made $200 in tips, then they have $50 off the books that they can keep (assuming those are cash tips... if a server makes over $150 on credit/debit cards, then there is a record of that and I believe that is accounted for some how).

The tip pool money goes the the greeters, busboys, expediters (usually a server in the kitchen that gather the orders from the line crew)...

A good server will always share their tips with the wait staff. What you describe is not even necessary, especially since in this day and age when there are less "busboys", etc. anyway as servers are asked to take on all of those roles in their job.
--

When what you describe is instituted, 1 of 2 things end up happening:

1. the owner/manager running the "tip share" program borrows or steals from the pool. "Hey guys we have to fix the beer cooler this month. I'm sorry, I have record of it and I will get that money back to you" (never does)...

or 2. The same good servers get screwed day after day to lift up the bad or lazy servers. Nothing like going to work every day busting your butt for someone else's tips. Often times, in my experience, the bad/lazy server is family or friends with the owner, which makes the environment toxic.

Typically, servers pay about 3% of total sales to pay for the services provided by and supplement the wages of the busser, hostess and bartender. More and more restaurants are trying to use the tip pool to supplement all staff members. Presumably, I guess they would then all be paid evenly in the $20/hr range. It will create distrust between staff and management and a decline in quality of service. Back in the late 90s my kitchen staff was making $20+/hour, we didn't raise menu prices when I implemented the wage increase and I didn't need to dip into the pockets of the front of the house staff.

Yep. It’s a smaller scale of Capitalism vs Socialism. You and I agree on something, Tasty.

A lot of HS kids aren't fortunate and work to keep the lights on and a roof over their heads while mommy and daddy are drinking/doing drugs collecting a government check.
Those HS students should be commended as should whoever gave them the example to work hard despite the pathetic example their parents set.....usually the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

The funny thing is there was a compromise from $400 to $300 but added an extra month. 🤣😂

Keep your handout money, Joe! GOP governors of Arkansas, Montana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Alabama REFUSE Biden's $300 per week unemployment benefit because 'it's time to stop paying workers to stay home'

Five Republican governors are declining federal coronavirus aid from President Joe Biden by ending the $300 per week enhanced unemployment benefits in their states.

The moves from GOP Governors Kay Ivey in Alabama, Asa Hutchinson in Arkansas, Tate Reeves in Mississippi, Greg Gianforte in Montana and Henry McMaster in South Carolina over the last week comes after Republicans demanded Biden drop the boosted benefits.

The move to reject the extra money comes as new expert analyses show those who made $32,000 before COVID-19 hit are now making more in benefits staying at home and collecting than if they were to go back to work.

Is there really anymore evidence needed of what would unfold with a UBI?? There have been several silver linings to Covid thus far.

Never thought I would see the day

Joe gonna have to start lobbying for bigger stimulus checks to pay for the increase in gas prices.

It will be interesting to see how many applicants start showing up now that the states are ending the handouts. I would think the smart ones would be grabbing those $15-$18/hour jobs now while they exist, because in a few months I would think those wages will be headed down again. It's actually gonna be fun to watch.

When these states "reject" the extra federal unemployment money what happens to the funds? Does anyone know? Do they give back the money or does the state still keep the funds just not give it to unemployed peoples?

I've yet to see real details on this
