It's a whole new ballgame: 2008 New York Yankees Thread

I've never heard of the victory yell. And Girardi was one of those "traditional yankees" fyi.

I don't get it. If you retaliate on a guy who broke another's wrist- thus ending his shot with the club, then you're dirty.

If you don't retaliate, then you're soft- something many said the yankees were last year. Part of their "decline" according to so many including the ultra-intelligent John Kruk.

I don't have a problem with what Girardi said in the first place, or with throwing. The slide was stupid- it was just bad execution.

But why is no one yelling at Gomes? Probably because his tackle-shove was just as cheap as Varitek's mug on A-Rod with a huge catcher's mitt while he was wearing a chest protector, chin guards, and a face mask.

Saw it. It sounds similar, but it would have blown up a lot more if he had said it.

I just don't think the plate collision was dirty, and therefore the retaliatory comments and outrage on the part of the Yankees were unnessecary.

The kid stood in and blocked the plate, and got bowled over, and due to incredibly bad luck, he broke his wrist. It's something that happens on rare occasions, but there was no intent to inflict the injury, whereas sliding in spikes (very) high, after making statements implying your intent to exact revenge, is a different animal entirely.

What? ESPN2? Did they move it? When I set it up to record on my dvr last night, it said it was on the mother station.

I hate the Yankees with passion, but I'll admit if I'm deciding between Mattingly and Girardi to be my manager, I take Girardi everytime and I'm not even counting Mattingly's off the field family issues and what not.

While Mattingly is my favorite player of all time, and I would love to see him get a managerial job, I would have to agree with you on this one. Joe has the track record and is a proven manager while Don is best suited for a role as a bench manager or the manager of a team other than the Yanks. I would hate the constant ridicule and pressure that he would get if he were the Yankees manager.

Darn good win over Doc Halladay and the Jays.

3-2, Wang with 7 strong and the win. Mo comes in lights out for the save.

A-Rod with a great game and an RBI double.

Melky broke the tie with a big shot.

That's now 11 straight home openers for America's Team.

Time to put the Moose out to pasture.

5-2 Jays. Mussina with 3 earned, getting out of 3 jams by virtue of double plays. It could've/should've been worse.

Only offense was A-Rod's 2R HR in the 7th (I think).

Yeah...I'm not impressed with anyone besides Wang and Hughes.

Speaking of that, Wanger to Joba to Mo for 4 hit, shutout baseball is beautiful to see.

Girardi says at least for the KC series.

Wilson Betimit will play in his stead. And I really like ol Beitmit- heck he's already got a RBI single today.

Phil Hughes has no semblance of control however.

I apologize Moose, you may still have something to give us. Great gameplan yesterday against a surprisingly potent TB offense.

A-Rod with the Golden Sombrero.

He's got to be thanking God that he's not in the Bronx right now.

Apparently the wind was a major factor at Kauffman yesterday and both pitchers felt it, problem is, KC's clean up hitter didn't strike out 4 times.

Bannister acknowledged it, and no one was throwing strikes.

Greatest rivalry in sports this weekend!

My 20 page research paper can wait. We've got Yanks-Sox for the next 3 days.

Great game to see, i happened to be there live, nice win for the Yanks. The rain held off, Bucholz was good but Wang was outstanding to say the least. Anyone who hasnt been to a Sox/Them game live, you are missing something great. My streak was ruined tonight though, 6 wins over NYY when i was in attendance at the Fens, the run ended tonight.

That'll happen when Wang should've had a one hitter. Then darn wall...

Let's hope Moose can reach into his bag of tricks and that Beckett's back goes out on him.
