It's Done - Strong will be announced [unconfirmed]

Here is my issue. Look at the fact that it took him THREE whole seasons to get to a BCS game. Now look at some of the good coaches out there. Saban has been to a BCS bowl two years in a row. Now that is the sign of a good coach. Gruden went to Bowls all the time, same with Stoops and Gundy. All have coached and likely won BCS bowls. So you Strong fanboys can please leave, and get back to me when he plays in a BCS bowl!!

Is this even serious?

I don't want to be gullible guy, so I'm going to assume it's not.

How will he fair in a recruits living room against saban, myles, richt, spurrier, muschamp, and sumlin? Not to mention the out of conf big names.

i'm big on Gruden, but he was a pro coach and played in the superbowl. no bcs for him..

My guy at UT says it's a done deal, will be announced Wednesday. Expects it to be around $3.75 mil a year.

I personally don't agree with this hire. Not impressed with what he's done at Louisville in a weak Big East. Others will disagree, say he's a great recruiter. I'm not sold.

But I do know it's a step up from Dooley.

Gruden was a done deal at one time according to quiet a few people who had a guy at UT in the know . More smoke on the fire until we hire who we all want GRUDEN!!
And if they do hire Strong , he will not make it in the SEC as a head coach , not enough time at that level to be qualified for being the HC of TENNESSEE FOOTBALL . Bring someone in with some ties to the school to lead our team back to glory . Also someone who bleeds orange to take back the Athletic Department .

I dont give it 3 years he went 3-4 5-2 and 5-2 in the Big East, the Big East.

So we are moving backwards then....great. Anyway I still don't believe. Everybody's info so far has been false. And for some reason I should think that this guy's info is real? NO SIR. Im gonna go ahead and call BS.

Strong is a good hire everyone calling for many more bad years will be the same ones yelling i told you so when the vols are east champs, go be bama fans no one will miss you. if this is true,.,. GO VOLS

lateral move IMO. What a waste of money. We will just be looking for a new coach in 3 years again if true.

Lateral move? Pee wee herman would be a lateral move. Strong would be a huge step up from Dooley. Is he a home run big name coach? No maybe not but we can't hold a gun to someone's head and make them come here. All the home run big name coaches already have great jobs and aren't interested in going against Alabama, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina every year especially with an Oregon and Texas A&M type team sprinkled in. Throwing money at coaches doesn't always work even if it's 5 million because any coach we pursue will immediately get a raise for staying at the school their already at.

Does anyone else find it disconcerting that fans of other teams are "good job" on the Strong hire???

I never said anything except "oh crap" when Saban was announced for Bama.

can't speak for the rest of the crowd, but we've done well against tennessee for 30 years now.

we just got done playing a schedule with 5 teams in the top 12 of the bcs.

worried about competition ain't my style

Also, Strong has coaching credibility that people can see. I think we gain thee fact that he has been successful these last few years. Most recruits now don't know the great Tennessee we lived because they were young. He establishes his record and shows that he is successful and can build. Solid hire but not a grand slam.

2-3 years is not much experience to me. Hiring Strong would be great for our recruiting. There is no denying that. Just a lot of unknowns to me about his coaching ability. His best wins are North Carolina and Cincinatti. Losses are UConn & Syracuse. Very iffy about his coaching ability.

If this is true, that's waaaay too much money for him. We may have Hamilton 2.0 on our hands.

Also makes me skeptical when opposing fans say its a good hire. I've seen this too many times about guys, ranging from Wade Houston to Dooley.

On one hand, this kinda goes with what Larry said about doubting we'll ever be relevant again (altho I don't think that way; it could still be a very long time).

On the other, all that being said, I stopped believing the "I know a guy" sources a long time ago. Not gonna believe anything til I see somebody standing up there at that podium.
