It's Done - Strong will be announced [unconfirmed]

Once again, I don't believe we would pay him 4 million a year.

I don't think it would take that much to get him, and I don't think he deserves that much.

Gruden was a done deal at one time according to quiet a few people who had a guy at UT in the know . More smoke on the fire until we hire who we all want GRUDEN!!
And if they do hire Strong , he will not make it in the SEC as a head coach , not enough time at that level to be qualified for being the HC of TENNESSEE FOOTBALL . Bring someone in with some ties to the school to lead our team back to glory . Also someone who bleeds orange to take back the Athletic Department .

FYI...

1983–1984 Florida (Graduate asst)
1985 Texas A&M (Graduate asst)
1986–1987 Southern Illinois (WR)
1988–1989 Florida (OLB)
1990 Ole Miss (WR)
1991–1994 Florida (Asst HC/DT)
1995–1998 Notre Dame (DE / DT)
1999–2001 South Carolina (DC)
2002–2009 Florida (DC/DE), Florida (interim HC), Florida (Asst HC/co-DC/LB)
2010–Present Louisville (HC)

Folks this is what is wrong with marrying your cousin.

Somebody is butthurt. LMAO...You tards keep believing this crap if you want. The OP has no clue as to what is going on with this coaching search.

Something is not right about this.

I can believe Strong, but not for 3.75 million.

I can believe 3.75 million, but for Gundy, instead.

Does anyone else find it disconcerting that fans of other teams are "good job" on the Strong hire???

I never said anything except "oh crap" when Saban was announced for Bama.

To be honest, I think some rival fans want to see us at least somewhat relevant again. The SEC is better when UT is good.

And how many years as a head coach , read my post again .

Once again, I don't believe we would pay him 4 million a year.

I don't think it would take that much to get him, and I don't think he deserves that much.

Considering with retention incentives he would make an average of 3.1 million a year at Louisville we would have to pay pretty close to 4 million.

Lateral move? Pee wee herman would be a lateral move. Strong would be a huge step up from Dooley. Is he a home run big name coach? No maybe not but we can't hold a gun to someone's head and make them come here. All the home run big name coaches already have great jobs and aren't interested in going against Alabama, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina every year especially with an Oregon and Texas A&M type team sprinkled in. Throwing money at coaches doesn't always work even if it's 5 million because any coach we pursue will immediately get a raise for staying at the school their already at.

So you are admitting that Strong will not be able to compete with Bama,Ga,Fla,SC? Point proven

I, for one would be happy with this hire. He can recruit and is the best option realistically. I think we'll compet hard in every game and have a stellar defense. Hopefully he keeps Chaney and we could be a surprise next year.
lol we were supposed to be a surprise this year :lolabove:

Lets be honest. Anything is an improvement but this guy has 3 yrs HC exp. He is unproven and a gamble at best. Where else can u land a multi-million dollar job with 3 yrs exp and a mediocre record to show from those 3 yrs?

if strong is the guy, tennessee getting where they need to be won't happen overnight.

Here's the problem though...I like Strong, think he's done a great job in his current position. Could he do a good job at UT? Probably so.

But our athletic department is getting to the breaking point, no matter if $18 million was freed up from academics. We need a name that will fill seats in Neyland. Frankly, Strong isn't a name that will fill seats next year. So yes, we can look at him being a great coach, but if we have another attendance year like this one, our whole athletic department is in trouble.

I've been all in for Gruden since I first started reading these threads. Two reasons, I think he is probably one of the most knowledgeable coaches in the game and can bring in a pro style offense that will cause some turmoil in other SEC schools. And the other reason is just a name alone can bring people to sit in the seats. Gruden can do that.

Realistically, we could look at a 7-5 or an 8-4 season with either one at the helm. But the difference is Strong cannot attract a fan base like Gruden can. And that's why I continue to be all in on Gruden and hopefully, the AD and boosters are as well.

Snooze fest on Strong.....I feel the guy can coach.....as many others that are being mentioned or considered! I personally just feel like if a large portion of the fan base isn't behind this hire and things go bad in the first couple of years...IE Dooley....that we will be right back in this coaching boat in a few years once again.... just my opinion and as always if whomever is hired can win....like they say winning cures all.... GOOD LUCK VOLS!
