It's Done - Strong will be announced [unconfirmed]

The more I think about it, the more Im pizzed just at the thought of yall getting Chuck. I will enjoy this hire all but one week of the season, and I will hate it with a passion for that one week.

If Strong goes and beats Florida will that be enough for you knob gobblers!!??!?!?

strong got beat by Uconn and Syracuse.. IN FOOTBALL..
I suppose anything could happen. Its more likely though that that game makes the UT/Florida game look super close. The first half will probably be similar to the bama auburn game. Only florida likes to run up the score so it could be even worse.

Fulmer had Peyton Manning and lost to Memphis
He also lost to LSU playing their backup or 3rd string QB in the SECG...

Every coach will lose a game they are not supposed to.

Saban lost to ULM and to Utah...

If Strong is hired, one win over a top team will change the negative opinion of the ones who won't be happy with the hire

Charlie is solid, but he isn't going to win SEC championships at UT. If he's hired I hope I am wrong that I think we're right back here in 4 years.

Urban wasn't going to win at FL either. I think Strong with the right OC could be pretty solid. Do I think he comes here? Who knows.

Every gator fan I know had pegged Strong for the gators last hire. In fact my family down there were all up in arms last year saying they cant wait to replace Muschamp with Strong.

That is exactly where I was. And I think Chuck wanted the job. He had stated earlier in the year that he was at Louisville for the long haul, but a friend of mine that knows his wife, says that he was keeping an eye on the Muschamp situation. If Muschamp had another down year this year he probably would not be in the mix for the UT job.

This is a great hire for UT, a horrible hire for the rest of the SEC

Recent history indicates that the UTAD damn sure did not know coaching so well

One AD that is no longer with us because of his poor decisions? Because of that, we should listen to the opinions of random fans from other schools, instead of our current AD that has been a part of two very successful programs?

Urban wasn't going to win at FL either.

He wasn't. Really? After an undefeated, top 5 ranked season at Utah. Really?

I love how on this board we have to forget records and reimagine history so that our mediocre hires have potential. Now Strong and Meyer have the same qualifications, just like Nick Saban's record at Michigan State was the same as Dooley's at La Tech.

Yeah, our AD went to one program that was already successful, and then got fired. Then got a lower level job at another program that was already successful. Color me impressed.

I think AndyMG was responding to a post that trashed the Strong hire based on opposing fan's reaction. He was reminding of our reaction/expectations for CUM, and how wrong they were.

That's what I got out of it anyway...

More impressive than the opinions of random nameless, faceless rival school fans.

Wait, there are opposing fans who are upset about the Strong hire? I would expect them to be happy with it as they usually are when we hire someone no one is afriad of.

Actually he wasn't supposed to win. Nearly everyone across the country said his spread offense was never gonna work in the SEC. 6 years later......

That's the entire point being debated.

Apparently some UF fans laughed about the hire, so "obviously it's a bad hire".

Response: We though CUM was a bad hire and laughed... How did that turn out?

I go to the University of Cincinnati and am very familiar with the big east, IMO CCS would be a steal for Tennessee. Players love him and he is a great defensive minded coach. He has a great passion for coaching. He is exactly what Tennessee needs at this point in time. VFL!

Yeah, lots of people said that the offense wouldn't work in the SEC, but I could tell plenty of people were worried about him. That "gimmicky offense" dismissal just seemed like something people were trying to convince themselves of, because it really seemed like Florida made a homerun hire otherwise. With Strong it's different, because he hasn't been wildly successful as a head coach thus far. Our rivals' fans can look at him and his HC record and simply say " Well if he does at UT what he's done so far, we don't have anything to worry about." Not the case with Meyer.

I guess they could. The point being discussed is this: Their (fans) opinion isn't a predictor. Meyer wasn't used to predict Strong's success. He was used to show that opposing fan opinion can't predict failure.

:hi:

Which one of you is the guy that called Terry and Russell yesterday and asked why fans dont get a vote on who gets to be the next coach for your team?

:eek:lol::eek:lol:

1) because fans generally do not think objectively
2) because fans arent the ones that get fired if the coach sucks
d) LOL-ing Out Loud

So you'd take him over your own coach?
