It's Done - Strong will be announced [unconfirmed]

That "only one" AD did more to wreck our program than any other person in history.

I much prefer opposing fans to fear our new HC than to welcome him with open arms to the SEC.

While we are on the subject, refresh my memory on all of Hart's great coaching hires before coming to UT?

Refresh my memory on the context of the discussion. Are you proposing that opposing fanbase opinion on a coaching hire is a predictive agent in the success of said coach?

If so, fine. You are wrong, as proven already by the CUM example. But that's fine.

If not, then why are we still discussing it?

you seem so sure. Why don't you share your selection of who our coach will be and why.

Well cause I spoke with my guy that used to be on this site .......he's been pretty good he told me four weeks before we axed Fulmer ,Two weeks before we hired Kiffen ,then a week before Dooley! I think I will go with what he say's!

He says your possibly mistaken!

Gundy is playing everyone. He is staying at OK state. Fedora rumors are iffy, but my gut tells me he will stay after UNC. Strong for whatever reason doesn't want the job anymore. Are we screwed? I mean right now we are on C+ to B level coaches, but if we miss on all these we could be looking at the bottom of the barrel. Honestly the only out of the 3 I think it is a possibility of taking the job is Strong. Scary.

You use the word 'possibly' and you offer no one besides Strong. So if you are correct my nightmare above comes true. God I hope not.

Kiffin resigned 1/13/10. Dooley was hired 1/16/10. Please, tell us again how your source told you a week before we hired Dooley. We are believing your lies. :loco:

(also, it's KiffIn, and "says". FWIW) :hi:

What letter grade would you assign to the UT job ? Honestly, the fan base is exasperated and ready to run out on rails anyone who can't assure a meteoric rise to the tip if the toughest conference. But your natural recruiting base is thin. And under constant attack.

I'd give the UT job a C+ and if I were a young head coach looking to step up, I'd look at UT with a bit of skepticism.

I would rate UT as the best open college coaching job.

I would also agree that up-and-coming coached, as well as established coaches, would view the position with trepidation, considering the unrealistic expectations and vitriol spewed by a certain segment of our fanbase.

The fanbase thing is anywhere. You are judging the entire fabase off of what you see on this website and even then you are probably cherry picking the lunatic fringe.

The natural recruiting base isn't thin. The in state recruiting base is thin. UT is close enough to Atlanta to be a desirable destination. North Carolina and Virginia are also there for the taking. And if we are relevant and have a coach with a pulse we can pretty much cherry pick Tennessee. As a side we also have the largest recruiting budget.

Phil Fulmer isn't the only person capable of recruiting kids to Tennessee.

No way UT is a C+ job.

As a die hard UT fan, I would rate the current UT job anywhere from B- to B+, with the current state of the program. However, it is the best open coaching position in the country.

Seems to be picking up steam that he will be the new Vol Coach. I am neither excited or upset with this selection if it happens. He seems to be a good coach, but hasn't recruited very well in his three years at Louisville. Of course it is Louisville. If he comes here and can't get top ten classes JMO he will fail. You have to recruit top ten classes to have any long term success in the SEC.

That's what's sad about it. After how terrible the last 3 years went you would think that we would go after a coach to get the fan base stimulated again but no we are all like oh...okay.

The ham is still a cooking in the oven. Let's not judge the taste until Mister Hart puts it on our plate.

Nick Saban was a mediocre coach and recruiter until he got into the SEC. When he hit the fertile grounds of Louisianna, boom. He certainly wasn't a home run hire.

Strong may not be a bad hire. The only downside is his recruiting. Hopefully he can pull from the Georgia and Florida area if he comes to Tennessee. No coach on our list seems to be that exciting so far. Neither Fedora, Fisher, Gundy, or Strong are too exciting. Strong and Fedora seem to be our last options. The upside to Strong is his defensive mind. Hopefully he could pull in a good OC.
