I've Had It

No Pearl Homer here but to blame him for a "Big White Guy" getting 10 points over his average seems to fall in Big Baby's/Fields hands for the most part. Averages 6 got 16. Just saying.

Somebody is going to have to explain to me how I should be excited for the 2011-12 season, even if the AA comes in and doesn't hand down any more punishment.

Exiting the Dance before the regional semis consistently would be the final straw for me. Losing one regular season game out 30 is far from sealing his fate. Once again, Vol Nation proves to largely overreact after a defeat.
it goes both ways there seems to be some underreaction as well.

but we must remember that Jimmy Swaggart got back on track and returned to the pulpit after his transgressions.

LOL. This is true but he had to get on TV and do alot of crying and begging to get in good grace with his church, Just don't see ole Bruce doing that.:eek:lol:

People seem to want to think I've said this because we lost to Kentucky.

I have simply come to the conclusion that Tennessee is not going to improve beyond the level at which it is now with this staff.

Change does not guarantee further success(see UT football)... but if you are not striving to go next level, you certainly will not.

Assuming Hopson and Harris come back, this team returns 4 starters. I actually like that team a lot.

Need a big guy though.

From what I hear you are making a massive assumption about Harris.

I won't be shocked, but I'll be surprised if he returns.

Mind numbing though, owh, are the Pitt and Nova W's.

It's coaching and the player's fault. If you are getting out-hustled, out-worked, out-rebounded etc, those are things as a coach you have total control over. Are there going to be nights your team just doesn't have it? Yes, but when it's a trend there is a much larger problem.

Are you not happy with the overall record of BP at Tennessee? Are you not happy with his tournament resume?

Harris isn't going to leave, its obvious to everyone with half a brain that he's not ready for the NBA.

Hopson won't be back and if Pearl is suspended or not retained Tobias will have a lot to think about.

And we will still have no low-post scoring threat.

On the sideline, CBP wasn't showing much emotion last night. That's hard to do. I almost throw my tv through the wall everytime we miss a layup or get out-hustled by the other team on a loose ball.

I was happy with my ex wife's production but when she lied about having my cousin over to the house it was decision time!

I don't know about happy.

It's been satisfying to see the Tennessee program raise it's national stature. The question to be asked is.....'Are we going to push the envelope higher with Pearl coaching the team?'... I used this thread to tell fellow VNers that I don't think so.

I understand that others prefer to stick with this level of success... Find it refreshing for Tennessee. That's okay too.

Me. I'm wanting more.

My answer would be yes if not for the following -

1) Very inconsistent and at times downright awful/stupid play the last 3 seasons that seems to be more common than not.

2) I don't see anything that says that level of success can continue after this season based on current roster assumptions.

3) The 10,000 pound anvil hanging over the program right now that is a direct result of Pearl himself that could possibly set the program back to even worse shape than he inherited it in.

In 5 full years he's 126-46 with 2 Sweet 16's and 1 Elite 8. Also, they've won the SEC E 3 times.

That's not too shabby, a lot of programs would love to have those results.

Believe me, I understand wanting to take it higher though. Fans get spoiled with success and always want more, that's the nature of the beast.

Are fans expectations unreasonable though? Not always but usually, yes.

please get rid of pearl.

He actually wins games. As a rival fan, it's much better for me when tennessee loses.

But, pearl actually wins. He has to go

My answers:
1. You've described every team in the country and every fanbase's analysis of their team. The record speaks for itself though.

2. I don't agree with this at all, recruiting classes have been good and have another good class coming in next year. Again, the record is speaking for itself.

3. Possibly yes.

Who really gives a crap about the SECE? After this season he will have one SEC Championship in six years, that's not exactly legendary. Do people really believe there aren't a load of coaches that could do that for $2.5 mil?

He's done plenty of good with the Sweet 16's and Elite 8 and raising the profile of the job BUT he's also embarrassed the program in a way that is unprecedented and cancels out some of the equity he built up.
