This is the 2nd or 3rd time ive heard about MSU paying players, whats up with these comments, as im unfamiliar?

There is an AAU team in Tennessee that sends every player to MSU. There is some suspicion around that connection. A Top 10 overall player in the country with interest from North Carolina and every other major college team ends his recruitment AT THE BEGINNING of his JUNIOR season to commit to MSU? Is that suppose to be taken seriously? Stansbury is a snake-oil salesman.

Is this related to the Chuck Benson - Tyler Smith situation a couple years ago? I heard rumors about funneling AAU players to schools but never read anything reported.

No, different program. That was the Tennessee Travelers.

I watched JP in many HS games. When Terry Tippett was coaching White Station they were plain fun to watch.

I would agree that JP was overrated out of HS. He was good, but got more push coming out of a traditional basketball mine like White Station.

I'd say the only thing JP has going for him is his work ethic was tought by Terry Tippett who also taught - Dane Bradshaw.

Prince will not be attending UT.

The difference between Stansbury and Alabama is he has been caught paying the players yet

Well, its not a 100% done deal. But, at the moment Pearl and his staff have decided that they will not tender a scholarship offer to Prince. They have until the end of this week to change their mind. Hopefully they do not change their mind. I would rather save the scholarship for the '08 class. And, in other news. Cordell Passley is academically ineligible in the spring semester of basketball. They say he is so behind that he might have to reclassify as an '09 prospect. At this point, it looks like UT is not going to take him.

That may open two scholarships. There's absolutely no reason to have Tony Passley sitting around burning a scholarship if we aren't going to bring his brother into the program.

You mean a 6'4 PF that is not very athletic and has no perimeter skills and turns the ball over at an alarming rate is not a good use of a scholarship?

Not Offer Passley??? What rock have you been living under? He was offered and accepted over a year ago. That is why he is called a commitment. That being said he may have just lost his ride. So all in all your people are dead wrong.

Passley may be inelligable this year because of bad grades and hes only in hight school, so UT is considering on passing on him. This is weird because his brother is one of the top students on the team.

Our agreement to offer Passley a scholarship his sophomore year and his agreement to accept it are not binding in the least. He is correct in saying we might not offer Cordell Passley. A formal offer is sent to him in writing and that is the only thing that is binding. We can tell him his sophomore year that we going to offer but that does not obligate us to send him the paperwork once his senior year gets here.

Technically rick an offer verbally or in writting is non-binding. The ONLY thing that is binding is a National Letter of Intent. Fact: Passley was offered. Fact: Passley accepted, but as I stated earlier offers are not binding and UT can pull the offer at any time.

OK smarty pants, we offered him as a sophomore in high school, but that is not viewed as a true scholarship offer until he receives the papers and that has not happened yet. If it turns out that Pearl does not offer him that scholarship and give him the papers, my sources WERE right.

Keep in mind, I never said we DIDN'T offer him, and I never said we WOULDN'T offer him, I just said I was told we MAY NOT offer him.

You and rick both need to learn about offers, if a coach offers whether verbally or in writting it IS official and IS viewed as a true scholarship offer.

Another point according to NCAA rules no recruit can get a written offer till their Junior year, but a verbal offering can be given at any time.

Recruiting Talk: J.P. Prince

In case you missed the note earlier, Tennessee is apparently still mulling over whether or not to get seriously involved in the recruitment of Arizona transfer J.P. Prince.

Prince is supposed to be in for a visit on campus Thursday and he and the staff will apparently meet and discuss the prospect of him joining the program. At this point the matter is definitely still unresolved, but the Vols are seriously looking at the option.

Prince needs to enroll in a school quickly to get started in the new semester, so the situation will need to get resolved in a hurry whether he winds up at Tennessee or another school.

I am not trying to be rude about this, but you are the one that is confused on this issue. The written scholarship offer that is binding is the National Letter of Intent. That is the only thing that is binding. Coach Peal can verbally tell me "we will offer you a scholarship if you want to come to UT" when I am a sophomore. But, when signing day of my senior year gets here that verbal offer does not obligate Coach Pearl to send me a National Letter of Intent to sign. He can change his mind. What his sources said was that UT might change its mind and not offer a National Letter of Intent to Passley, and that is completely accurate.
