Jalin Hyatt isn’t an NFL ready receiver

So there’s a couple of things at play here in my opinion. If we go back years to the Art Briles offenses at Baylor, Corey Coleman was drafted as a first round pick as was Kendall Wright I believe. The knock on those guys was “limited route tree”. Our offense is based on the veer and shoot principles.

A lot of Hyatt’s big plays have been the result of scheme/athletic ability from a speed standpoint. Is he a complete receiver? No. From the standpoint we don’t ask him to run every route in the tree. But can he excel in the right system….absolutely.

What Jalen Reagor was supposed to be, that’s kinda what Hyatt is right now. I think Reagor coming out of TCU was more refined as a route runner but he was undersized. Not a perfect comparison, just trying to illustrate.

Todd McShay gave him a first round grade in his latest mock. Now again, Jalin has room for improvement. So does every prospect coming into the NFL. Imagine him on the Cowboys? They have no deep threat (Ceedee has his moments but is still inconsistent). You put Hyatt in the slot and he would get schemed open with his outstanding speed with Kellen Moore calling plays.

Hyatt definitely didn’t break tackles in space yesterday and has room to get stronger and improve. If he’s a day 1 or 2 pick, he’s out. And I wouldn’t blame him. He’s had a special year and I love his attitude. He’s not a diva receiver.

He still has some work to put in but saying he isn’t a pro prospect is silly. He will make a living on his speed alone. And, if he adds weight to his frame and keeps his speed, he will have a great career.

He’s not as good as Hooker. Or else he’d be the current starter. Decision making, running ability and accuracy aren’t as good. I’m not talking about the cannon arm.
The backup QB is always the most popular player on the team. Until you get him out there and see why he was the backup.

I think it's Heupel's scheme that's making him look elite.

I just don't see it translating to the NFL. Those dudes will jam him at the line.

Yes. I’m sure that Brian Daboll or Sean Mcvay or the coach from the Bengals won’t be able to scheme a way to get a 4.25 guy with good hands open.

Lol seriously ? Dude has caught 51 passes for 970 yards. 14 tds and hasnt had a drop this season. Sure he needs to add more strength. You guys think Marvin Harrison Jr doesnt ? They all do and thats the biggest transition to the NFL for any and all players. If you really wanna microscope Hooker did not play well. You simply can not hold the ball all day against UGA. The whole team is accountable for the loss. We had a test and we failed. Study and don't make the same mistakes next time. I have a feeling we see UGA again and I expect our guys will adjust and put in the work

To be fair, Marvin Harrison Jr. is like 6-4 215 lbs. Hyatt is maybe 6 ft tall and 175 lbs.

Harrison is a Kelly Washington type freak.

Nothing to do with last nights game.

He’s a small receiver with great straight line speed. The problems are he doesn’t make guys miss, he doesn’t have the wiggle side to side and he doesn’t break tackles. I remember one touchdown where he got away from a few guys but it was more of him getting lost in the group than breaking tackles.

Almost all of his touchdowns are from running wide open. I’ve seen plenty of what they call system QBs but it seems he’s a system receiver.

I’m not saying he won’t make it in the NFL but I really believe he needs to stay another year and get stronger. I think he gets man handled by bigger stronger NFL DBs . Last night just showed it a little more.
Is that you Kyler Kerbyson.

Good grief. Hyatt runs a 4.29/40 and a 10.4 100m. Even if he wasn't absolutely dominant catching the ball this year, he'd be a major NFL target based on physical stats alone. He had 70 yards vs the best defense in the nation yesterday with a rolled ankle. He was a 2 yard overthrow away from catching another 50+ yard bomb, as he'd ran by the UGA defensive backs but Hooker put it down the field just a bit too far.

He’s leaving after the end of the regular season to get ready for the combine. Only because of the OP‘s comments. Not because he’s broken his school record for catching touchdowns or anything like that. Nope, the OP hurt his feelings and he’s gone. No more putting up with being put down.

I agree. Neither is McCoy. If there is a silver lining to this game it is that it made apparent that both can use another year of development in college.

He could use another yr in weight room but The money will be there & he needs to take it. He saw tillmans injury and while not serious, he wouldn’t want it to happen to him. I can’t blame him.

Every NFL team is looking for a receiver that has the speed to take the top off of the defense. He does need to continue to add more strength, but he will get drafted if he declares.

No. Thank you for clarifying that players go to the NFL for “money”.
jeez. I bet you are the life of the party!

I honestly don't know JH's family situation, but I do know that some players choose to leave school early, whether they actually want to or not, because their family needs them to.

He’d be a great slot receiver. Reminds me of a Wes Welker type
Huh? Wes Welker is 5’9’ slow straight line speed with amazing quickness. Hyatt is 6’0” with 4.3 speed and hasn’t shown much in the way of moves/quickness. They are both good slot WRs though!

Yeah and do you notice how our water girl
holds the water bottle at a weird angle. She will never make it to the next level wasting water like that.

I love Jaylin higher as a player like most of our fans do. But the truth is he has a very unique skill set and is very limited in what he is able to do. What he is able to do is beat the defense deep. He is incredibly fortunate to be on a team with such a spectacular offensive scheme that he gets a lot of deep balls thrown his way when he is wide-open. Every other part of his game is very subpar. He has absolutely zero “shake and bake” in the open field. Amd I mean zero. Guys that outweigh him by 80 pounds easily break down when he is in front of them and tackle him. I don’t recall him ever juking a single defender. Which is really bizarre because he is so small and so fast. Kind of like a Tyreek Hill… You would expect him to have excellent moves in the open field but he does not. He also has very shaky hands. Almost every single big pass he has caught this year he has kind of bobbled. He’s been fortunate to catch a lot of them. And finally… He doesn’t even make great decisions a lot of the time. On multiple occasions yesterday he caught the ball and if he just continued on his route would have easily made a first down yet he would try and stop and cut back only to end up getting stonewalled. He also seemed to slow down before trying to re-accelerate on what could’ve been the biggest play of the game at that point for us. It ended up being overthrown by a couple of yards.

But back to the op’s point… He is going to go to the NFL combine and run a sub 4.3 having put up massive numbers throughout the season and will likely end up being a first round pick. It is absolutely insane that an NFL club will choose them that high but they will. That’s the old “can’t teach speed” adage. But it’ll be a bad draft pick. The nfl executives are often not that intelligent to be honest. Some of these analysts have Will Levi’s higher than Bryce young and they all have him higher than hooker. Yet he’s just flat out not a good player. He has poor pocket awareness and is very inaccurate especially in traffic.
