James Franklin is supposedly....

Why on Earth would you Leave Miami for PSU?

Because Al Golden is a Penn Sate alum... not to mention, Miami is a huge bandwagon city. When the Hurricanes, Heat and Marlins are losing, nobody goes to the games. Plus, the Hurricanes aren't really the power house they once were. They're also a private school while Penn State is a public school. If what I'm reading on their wiki page is correct, it looks like Penn State has 98,000 students and Miami has 15,600 students. The Penn State one doesn't sound right, but that's what it says on the wiki page.

I could see leaving Miami for Penn State from a coaching perspective. Especially if you're a former player. Leaving the Miami weather and tax breaks would suck though.

So, it sounds like James Franklin and Al Golden are the finalists for the Penn State job. And James Franklin and Charlie Stronger are the finalists for the Texas job.

Vanderbilt fans actually can't see why James Franklin would leave Vanderbilt for Penn State. They don't think it's a very good job and act as if Vanderbilt is... :post-4-1090547912:. Vanderbilt has to be one of the worst jobs in the country. They're located in the state of Tennessee(not a hotbed for high school football), they have high academic standards(harder to get players admitted), their stadium holds just under 40,000(pathetic) and they play in the SEC(best conference in the country). They've had a rare run these past few years but that's going to come to an end regardless if Franklin stays or goes. I don't believe Vanderbilt is a school that can sustain their success. Regardless, it's funny they don't think Penn State is that good of a job and Vanderbilt is. I'd be utterly shocked if James Franklin turned down Penn State or Texas should they offer.

Sometimes I think these sources on the coaching rumor websites might have hired a few from VN because often there is no validity to the report. However, I think once someone is hired at Texas and Penn State, the dominos begin to fall and eventually someone (Louisville or Miami) will grab Franklin.

Agreed. Either way, Franklin will coach somewhere else next year. And deservedly so.

If his best option ends up being Louisville, he might as well stay at Vanderbilt for another year. He's being looked at by premiere programs so it seems silly to go to another school you'd use as a stepping stone when you'll get a better offer next year. Unless he wants to Lane Kiffin - Louisville, he'd have to stick it out a couple years at a mediocre program. Surely he'd stay at Vanderbilt one more year and leave the following season over going to Louisville.

I don't consider Louisville an elite program, but they will be in the acc next year. if he's winning 8 games at Vandy right now, no reason to think that 10 win seasons with Louisville in the acc isn't possible.

I agree.

But my point was, there will probably be some other better jobs open next year if Louisville ends up being his best this year. If I were him, I wouldn't want to screw over the Louisville fan base by leaving after a year and I also wouldn't wanna be stuck there for three years to satisfy them. With the programs that are looking at him right now, surely he can do better than Louisville if he waits it out another year. That's if he doesn't land one of the big time jobs this year. I'm just thinking that he'd get a better offer than Louisville next year and it would suck to be the guy that went there for a year and left them for a better job after one season. If he wanted to stay at Louisville, that's one thing. But it seems he's looking for a bigger opportunity if he leaves Vandy.

I see your point. The big question he would need to ask himself is if their are any bigger jobs with the possibility of opening up next year. Our take the opportunity to go to a program that has fan support.

Gruden to the other UT. His wife graduated from UT. So its a perfect fit. She was and always will be a cheerleader. And everyone knows they are dumb as a bag of nails. If she had to cheer for another abbreviation she would probably misspell it. But anyways. Gruden to UT.

Based on what I think you just said I wouldn't call anyone dumb if I were you

True. Big jobs don't always open up in college. If he's willing to go to the NFL though... there will definitely be jobs open and that's just as good if not better than a big time program. That's if your willing to go to the NFL. As far as big programs go... probably not a lot that would open up. If Will Muschamp, Mark Richt, Brady Hoke or Bo Pellini have a bad season, I could see Florida, Georgia, Michigan and Nebraska opening up. Richt and Pellini win 10 games regularly but for whatever reason, it feels like they've been wearing our their welcome the past couple years. But all of those jobs are really good jobs should they come open.

And I suppose there's always the possibility of Steve Spurrier or Frank Beamer retiring? They're getting up there in age, so it could happen any day. South Carolina and Virginia Tech aren't the most amazing schools in the world but I still view them as a tier above Louisville. Maybe I'm underestimating Louisville's addition to the ACC. While Louisville's been winning under Petrino and Smart, I don't see the program as any better than Syracuse or Boston College. They just haven't been winning like Louisville has but really, they should have about the same resources as Louisville and all it would take is the right coach.

The job is Golden's should he choose to accept it...played there, coached there. Franklin has no shot with the last Vandy scandal.

Has it?

I mean I do not think there is anything out there that implicates him in any way. But I keep hearing police say it is still an active investigation.

Penn State of all places might be a problem

So far the only people Metro is looking at heavily are the four initial players kicked out of the program, and a fifth player charged some weeks after the initial arrests from what I've heard out of Metro.

It's harder to find a more delusional fan base than Vandy. Just by them even thinking that Vandy is a better job than Penn St just shows how idiotic and truly delusional they are.

Penn State is the perfect place for him right now and not because of his PA connections. Franklin's biggest frustration at Vandy has been finding out that Nashville and Vandy just isn't going to show the support he wants regardless of whether or not he wins them more games than they've ever seen. The stadium plans they've had are stuck in no-man's land. The athletic center they just opened is nice for a small private school but there are high schools with better ones and in big time football, especially the SEC you can't have that. It's also shared amongst all sports. Even if Vandy wanted to build first class training centers and practice fields they're limited by space (something other SEC schools don't have to worry about).

Franklin has been obvious about not liking the fact that he gets no fan support. At PSU, he'd get all the support he could want and plenty of time because of their sanctions.

He's pretty stupid if he thought making a few bowl games would win him middle TN or even Nashville for that matter.
