Jarnell Stokes names his top 3

Memphis had goods and bads.

Good: Shot 58%, held Belmont to 38%, 9 TOs, forced 18 TOs, 20 assists.

Bad: Allowed 20 offensive boards, 64% FT shooting.

Overall, I would say that is good basketball.

For Memphis. They'll be a 4 or 5 seed because of being talented in a sorry conference. Boy Wonder is Buzz Peterson with recruiting $kills.

Pretty solid performance?

Belmont played pretty solid. Memphis didn't play good basketball, they were just ridiculously more athletic than Belmont.

C'mon man. a 16 point win against a team receiving top 25 votes is a solid win.

But I understand UT fans not wanting to give Pastner and the Tigers credit.

The only thing the Tigers didn't do well is rebound defensively, and that could be a product of being short handed in the front court.

Memphis looks like a Rocky Top League team. Pastner is a one trick pony and his one trick isn't coaching the game of basketball. Memphis is a 25 point better team athletically than Belmont.

Who was out in the front court and why?

Ferro Hall isn't eligible until December, so it's basically Tarik Black backed up by Stan Simpson, who didn't train with the team all summer.

Both got into early foul trouble, so Memphis went 4 guards most of the game.

Memphis was favored by 4.5 in that game.

Memphis' whole gameplan is to out run the other team and win through pressure. That's why we went out and hired the best strength and conditioning trainer in the biz. Obviously, that game plan worked against a good team yesterday.

But again, I understand UT fans not wanting to give Pastner his due.

Thanks. I enjoy your insight.

I guess more than just UT fans don't give Pastner the respect he deserves.

I got no problem giving Pastner his due when he deserves it. Memphis was clearly more athletic than Belmont. I'm waiting until Memphis plays a team that can match their intensity or Pastner has to actually coach possessions in a tight game situation. Memphis offense looks like organized streetball. Nothing wrong with it, it's just the uptempo style they run. It's exciting and they obviously have a very talented roster. But you can't say that Pastner has proven himself as a coach yet so I hold judgement on the guy until I see him earn his paycheck in that type of situation. I'm still in the crowd, "can the guy actually coach" or "does he just benefit because he rides Cal's coat tail and has elite talent in his backyard". We'll see.

So when Memphis is only favored by 4.5 over Blemont, it's because Pastner is assumed to be a poor coach, but when Memphis actually wins by 16, it has nothing to do with Pastner's coaching?

That doesn't seem fair.

It's Belmont. Of course, I will concede that they most likely would finish 2nd in Conference USA, so I guess it just depends on your perception of a good team.

How many SEC teams would beat Belmont 9 times out of 10?

I'd venture to say only UK, UF and Vandy.

Bama, Ole Miss, and UGA would have a > .500 record.

Arky and Miss. St. may break even.

LSU and Auburn wouldn't win more than 2-3.

South Carolina may not win more than once.

Where does UT fall?

Belmont will win 30 games and probably be a 9-10 seed in March. Do you disagree?

I think there are very few teams in the SEC that Belmont could beat more than 5 times out of 10. Part of why Belmont competes (yet never wins) games early in the year is the element of surprise. Teams don't scout them well. If they played 10 times, Belmont's advantage disappears.

The real question is who in CUSA could beat Belmont? Probably just you guys. BTW, you guys are a perfect matchup for Belmont yet you took them serious and handled them. That's what happens to them when they don't have the element of surprise.

Belmont always plays good basketball. Not sure why they slight at belmont when you defended LMU?

I'm not slighting Belmont at all. They are a good mid-major team. The fact is they've never beaten anyone worth much. LMU is a really really good division 2 team. I dont see that I'm dissing anyone.

If he was sold to Memphis, then why not committ, sign the LOI and enjoy his senior year? If he likes UT, then waiting till Spring makes the most sense.

It would be an upset of epic proportion if he chose us over Memphis. I don't expect it to happen.
