Jay Graham to FSU (merged)

Wasn't Eddie Gran a pretty good RB coach for us in 2009 and good recruiter? If Graham is gone, why not consider interviewing Gran? I think FSU has had some decent RBs under Gran the last few years...

Gran is the OC at Cincinnati. I don't see him leaving to coach RBs for the Vols.

Here we go again...its CJGs fault for not landing a top RB. Has nothing to do with the instability of the program that has been created over the yrs by many factors including this fanbase. Also it can have nothing to do with CBJ either, cause he's every ones golden boy and this is his "dream job".

Got love some of the people on here. Geeeezzzz.

What a fool. In your view Jones should be able to undo in 31 days all the damage your hero Dooley did in 3 years.

Attrition on college staffs are the norm these days , saban has lost three assistants since NSD. :yes: :yes:

If you want loyalty get a dog.( preferably a blue tick hound) :thumbsup:

Thanks for everything Jay! Hopefully you got a big raise and this will help your career! I'm sure you made the best decision for you and your family. Long live capitalism! I will never blame someone for pursuing more money or trying to better their career!

Look at the trajectory of the Coaching staffs at the two schools. FSU has lost 7 coaches this off season for better jobs/$$$.
Gran(RB -> OC@Cincy),
Hudson(LB -> DC@Purdue),
Elliot(DE -> DC@Kentucky),
Stoops(DC -> HC@Kentucky),
Napier(TE -> WR@Bama),
Coley(OC w/o playcalling -> OC w/ playcalling @ Miami(FL) ($$, home town)
)
Craig(QB -> WR@AU ($$, alma mater))

Tennessee just fired all it's coaches.

From a career stability, trajectory point of view, Graham probably figures he can spend a year or 2 at FSU and then bounce to a Coordinator position.

For the record I don't give two sheets. If somebody leaves, then move on from it. Everybody has coaches leave, Auburn had a coach leave a couple of weeks or so from signing day. Calm down. Move on we can't get a worse recruiter. Our ex RB's missed on every RB recruit.

I have to agree. And...people are saying stuff like "CJG left because CBJ could not get him enough money". Ummm...or maybe he was not willing to give the raise. Not much that was raise worthy, imo. This might have been a win/win situation.

Did leave on his own? -- FSU offered him a deal he couldn't refuse?

Or

Did he feel forced out? --- The new staff completely used him and it bothered him that they are all "cincy" buddies?

Or

????

No way, this was out of the blue. This had to be in JG's mind for awhile.

I just chalk this up to him not being one of Butch's guys. Which is fine. He wasn't paid enough and wasn't given the RC position. Just dissapointing bc he was one of my favorite Vols. But he has to worry about his career. Good luck Jay.

Hated to hear this. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that these sorts of decisions are usually based on a lot of complex factors and it was probably mutual in some respects. Coach Jones made a smart PR move by keeping Graham on through the transition, but that doesn't mean Graham was always going to be his guy. Graham staying on through NSD also probably helped us.

As much as we may tend to take these things personally, it's a job decision for the coaches. Professionally, it's probably a good move for Graham and now is a good time for him to make it. He was beloved in Tennessee, so he must have had very good reasons for leaving. Maybe it will turn out to be for the better in the long run.

Money is the root of all evil...proof positive with Jay selling his soul to the devil.

I'm sure if Target offered you a good raise you would tell them to shove it because you are Walmart for life.

It is the nature of the business. Coaches change jobs a lot. If they are part of a losing staff they get canned. If they are part of a winning program they get cherry-picked by other losing staffs and get more money and leave. Has nothing to do with loyalty to alma mater. Has to do with what is best for him and his family.

VFL should not apply to coaches, just former players outside of the coaching profession.

Lemee get this straight - you're comparing three months of Butch Jones to the results of two years for Saban and Meyer?

I'm with you if in two years we haven't shown marked improvement but to make a statement like that because one coach leaves is stupid.

I literally said in my post that I wasnt comparing Jones to anyone. Did you read that? I was saying that coaches that can recruit tend to do so immediately and can turn things around quickly.

It does not matter that you said it, you were still comparing them.

Agree, it comes down to the rest of his coaching staff moving out. Also, we may be getting ready for the air game this coming year. I know coach Jones likes to air the ball out and this may be a sign of that. Let's keep our fingers crossed and see how this pans out. The plan is coming together as we speek...
