Jerry Jones in Tuscaloosa Thursday. (RUMOR)

I heard some interesting comments during Jones' press conference. He made the statement that he started thinking about the change last week, but really made up his mind Saturday night.

Scenario: Jones flies to Alabama to speak with Saban, after having thoughts of firing Phillips to get a feel of Sabans position. Saban likes the offer, but tells Jones that it is depending on if Alabama beats LSU and still has a shot a the NC game. Alabama loses to LSU and Jerry makes a call Saturday night to Saban. Saban advises that he will take the job at the end of the season. Phillips is fired Sunday, making the room for Saban.

Well, Jones said by accident in the presser that he had not considered a midseason change untill last week. He then backtracked and tried to say this week. That means he was probably on the hunt talking to potential replacements las week but did not want it out.

Sounds good to me.....

Book it!

I have to ask. What makes Saban so enticing? Why is he the first choice? Besides the obvious, that 90% of posters on here wish this were true. What about Cowher, Gruden or some other college coaches?

How many college coaches not only have 2 National Championship rings but at 2 different schools and attained both in a combined 7 years at the school?

As I said earlier, history might be on our (Vols fans) side here. Both of JJ's successful coaches are collegiate transplants (Johnson, Switzer).

Still don't think Saban is going anywhere. If JJ has the dough to spend, he will be giving Gruden and Cowher first shot.

And they'll probably say no unless JJ gives the more control than he most think he would.

It's one thing to coach a storied program such as Alabama. It's a whole other animal to coach the Cowboys though, anointed "America's team". It'd also be hard passing up the money, facilities and general lavishness that comes with the head coach position up there. And really, Dallas vs. Tuscaloosa?

If I'm Saban, my bags are packed.

I find Gruden rather overrated IMO. The fact that Jerry has went the college route before and has had success, i could see him doing it again. Make no mistake, if the price is right, Saban is changing zip codes again. That is if Jerry really wants him.

All excellent points

but the main selling point is Tony Romo, a top NFL QB. JJ also helps his Hogs with pulling Saban out of the SEC West. But thats really low on the list of reasons.

The 4 names are, imo

Cowher (no chance)
Saban
Gruden
Jim Harbaugh

Gruden doesn't need complete control, so I doubt that would keep him out of Dallas. You're probably correct with Cowher though.

I could see Harbaugh before Saban. Saban has a gold mine in bama. He could milk them for as much cash as he would get from Dallas if he so chooses. And he has established that he is very good at coaching college football, not so much in the NFL. Maybe he wants to give the pros another shot, maybe he knows he has a bird in the hand.

That's simply wrong...JJ could easily win a bidding battle against Alabama.

Jerry Jones could pay a coach $25 million a year, and it wouldn't hurt him a bit....

Not that he ever would. Just saying.

Bama can dole out the cash, but no way can they put it in Saban's pocket like Jones. I call it a long shot.

John Clayton reported this morning that John Gruden looked to be the leading candidate followed by John Fox, and then possibly Marvin Lewis. He said if those didn't work out, he would possibly look in the collegiate ranks at Harbaugh or and up and coming NFL assistant. There was no mention of Saban at all.

You'd be surprised how easy it is for a fired NFL head man to find work.

Not for this vacancy.

Fox is freaking 1-7 at Carolina this year. There's no way Jerry Jones fires Wade Phillips midseason to bring in John effing Fox.

Marvin Lewis ain't the guy either.

I'd be surprised if Jerry doesn't swing for the fences and lure a big name to Dallas.

Strangely, I don't see Gruden taking the job at Dallas. I do agree that they go after a big name, but in the college ranks, there aren't many, or any, much bigger than Nick Saban.

Listning to the radio, they made it seem that if Jason Garrett goes 4-4 during the last 8 game, it's his job. I doubt that, but I'd want to know what kind of improvement the team has to show for Garrett to get the job.

Ah, I can see it now:

Saban leaves for Dallas
Auburn gets hammered by the NCAA
Spurrier retires after failing to win the East
Meyer finally resigns
Richt stays
And everything gets a little easier for us. =]
