Jerry Jones in Tuscaloosa Thursday. (RUMOR)

Personally, I'd be shocked. He had free rein and an open checkbook with the Dolphins and was quite the failure. Having been a life-long Dolphins fan, I can tell you he had all the opportunities to succeed but didn't. I think he realizes putting a winning team together is far more difficult in the pros and it's simply not his cup of tea.

It goes without saying he'll have the checkbook with the 'Boys, but it will always be Jerry's team. Not too many great coaches will like that arrangement.

You must have a case of amnesia because he was working with Gus Ferrotte(old), Daunte Culpepper(injured) and Joey Harrington(bust).

There is a reason the Dolphins started using the Wildcat. They didn't have a quarterback.

Something tells me that Nick Saban would have more success with Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

Also, didn't the Dolphins run a 4-3 defense until recently? Cowboys are already using a 3-4 defense like Bama.

JJ is lining up the movers to get Satan to Dallas the day after the 'barn game.

What if Garrett turns the Cowboys around and gets them to winning as the interim coach. Jones was high on Garrett at one point, so Jones could decide to stick with Garrett if he turns the team around. Jones may be using this interim situation for Garrett as a tryout for head coach with the backup plan of going after Saban, Cowher, Gruden, or some other big name at the end of the season.

I was selling equipment to the Bucs when JG was there....I do not believe that he and JJ could EVER survive each other.
JG would have to have mellowed a ton.

Gruden won big working with Al Davis. If Gruden could do it with Davis, he can work with anyone.

Garrett's not turning things around with Jon Kitna leading his team.

The Cowboys are done. The entire coaching staff is gone at season's end.

What? Are you kidding me? Kitna is a career 46-70! Well...maybe you're right. And the 'Boys are 31st in rushing offense...so they can't count on that to save them.

I guess a distant 3rd would be Phil Jackson and the Lakers job.

To give you an idea:

The NBA and MLB are fighting each other in the regular season... and the final World Series game saw itself losing, in ratings but not head-to-head, to The Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars... the 29th and 47th largest TV markets, respectively.

The NBA Finals opener (Lakers/Celtics) lost out (10.4) in ratings to the regular season Sunday Night game between New Orleans and Pittsburgh (11.8) That Sunday Night game was also on Halloween and going up against Game 4 of the World Series.

Football sits atop the US sports interest and there isn't a close 2nd.

You are more than likely right, but stranger things have happened in the NFL. Even Derek Anderson has been known to have a fluke season every once in a while. You'd think Jones would have turned it over to Campo if he didn't want to at least see what Garrett can do.

I just read a comment on another board from someone claiming to be friends with Cowboys D-linemen Jason Hatcher. They asked him about the next coach and the first thing that popped out of his mouth was Nick Saban.

TIFWI. Obviously a lot of stuff on the internet is lies and even if it were true, Jason Hatcher could be wrong.

His press conference statements made it very clear that this was a short term solution to a long term issue. I dont expect Garrett to be the head coach next year, nor should Garrett.

He was asked about the player's effort on the field, and I though I was going to have to take a nap during his response. It took him forever to come up with a half ass attempt to dodge the question. Some ramblings about "learning to be committed to winning" blah blah blah.

In short, Jerrah is ticked and heads are rolling. Players have been put on notice and the next 8 weeks is nothing more than glorified try outs for everyone involved. Oh how far the mighty have fallen.

What makes you say that kush

I may have misused the word legs. If so, I apologize. I simply meant rumblings from other places than here. But, they couldve simply read it here, I assume. My bad Lyls, wasn't tryin to mislead @ all homie.

It boils down to Jones wanting Saban.

If he does thats all it takes. Its not even about $. JJ makes that a non issue if he wants him.

I have to ask. What makes Saban so enticing? Why is he the first choice? Besides the obvious, that 90% of posters on here wish this were true. What about Cowher, Gruden or some other college coaches?

None of them are employed in Tuscaloosa, so the idea of packing up and leaving isn't as enticing.

I doubt he's leaving. No one would leave Miami, Florida for Tuscaloosa, Alabama if they thought they liked their first job better.

I don't think he's leaving either, but the Cowboys job is significantly better than the Miami job. Saban doesn't take me as the kind of man who'd enjoy or even bother with the extra circulars that Miami has to offer.

I heard some interesting comments during Jones' press conference. He made the statement that he started thinking about the change last week, but really made up his mind Saturday night.

Scenario: Jones flies to Alabama to speak with Saban, after having thoughts of firing Phillips to get a feel of Sabans position. Saban likes the offer, but tells Jones that it is depending on if Alabama beats LSU and still has a shot a the NC game. Alabama loses to LSU and Jerry makes a call Saturday night to Saban. Saban advises that he will take the job at the end of the season. Phillips is fired Sunday, making the room for Saban.
