Wow. That is quite possibly the craziest thing I've ever read on this site...and I actually read the stupid Gruden Cliff Notes several times.
seems to me like a better investment than other choices.
That's something else that needs to be discussed as well. I bet, much like Petrino, you could almost dictate contractual terms to Tressel. Maybe around $2 million a year with a small buyout, if any. So if it doesn't work out, what have you lost? As I have stated before, I actually think there is less risk with him having possible NCAA issues than a lot of coaches because of the NCAA microscope that will be on him and the program.
Also, this argument about next season being ruined is weak. Next season will truly be "year 0" again and we are building this program for the long term not one season where at best we probably go 7-5. He may be the most proven winner who is available out there guys.
Let it go...you cannot sell Tressel or Petrino to the fans. Guarantee a winning season would change their minds, but we could never get to that point. Move on....I could understand if Tressel had recruiting violations, took money, made payouts, bribes, etc...but we're talking about the worst of the worst....Free Tattoos!!
It's a pitty that Tressel is being held under for something like that. Granted it was wrong but compared to what and whom? Everyone wants a winner and good coach that's fit for UT but so far everyone is either griping about something, someone or the fact there's a snowball's chance in hades of us getting them.
We're facing dire times at UT and cannot afford another three year experiment. And face it; it's going to take a good one to two years before we see some improvement. Even Saban had a rough first year at Bama. We need a winner and proven one at that and Tressel would like a chance to re himself and have a second chance. You look at his history and he doesn't like to move from one place to another so Long Term is what we need.

has Tressel ever beat a ranked SEC team ? i remember CPF beating them a few years in a row,was that Tressel?
Precisely. Tressel's transgressions are absolutely miniscule compared with those of Charlie Pell's at Florida in the 1980s:
"After the 1982 season, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) began an investigation into possible rule violations by Pell and his staff at Florida. Pell took full responsibility for the violations in August 1984 and announced he would resign at the end of the season. However, on September 16, only three games into the season, the NCAA announced that Florida was alleged to have committed 107 major infractions--including spying on other teams' practices, payments and gifts to players, and allowing walk-ons to stay in the athletic dorm. That night, university president Marshall Criser fired Pell and named his offensive coordinator, Galen Hall, as interim coach. Hall and the 1984 Gators won Florida's first-ever Southeastern Conference (SEC) football championship, but the SEC university presidents voted to vacate the Gators' 1984 SEC title after the season was over. In January 1985, after it was ultimately determined that Pell and the Gators coaching staff had actually committed fifty-nine infractions, the NCAA placed Florida on two years' probation and banned the Gators from bowl games and live television in 1985 and 1986. The NCAA also reduced the Gators' football scholarships by twenty over three years. The loss of scholarships proved to be the most crippling sanction in the long-term; with a depleted roster, the Gators did not win more than seven games from 1986 to 1989" (Charley Pell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).
