so we should never criticize players for poor play? If they werent good they werent good we can at least discuss it. There is nothing to discuss if we can say someone isnt good. All we said was the last two Clausens didnt turn out that well, and they didn't. There is a reason they are both Grad Assistants a year or two after playing its because no one wanted them. We respect them for them coming here and playing hard but we can still talk about how good they were. Now criticizing there playing ability is one thing but if we start going after them personally like out side of sports i see a problem with that like calling them gay or something.

So was Danny Wuerffel a good QB? How about Frazier or Ward? Jason White or Eric Crouch? I don't see any teams fighting to sign these guys. You need to seperate being a college QB to being a pro.

How many games did Casey win? Any big ones? Just because you may dislike his personality doesn't mean he didn't give his all to UT.

that wasnt my point my point was its alright to talk about players flaws, we shouldnt not just because it would be in some peoples minds "disrespecting" them

He won't be mistaken for Peyton Manning anytime soon, but you're right. He was a very serviceable college QB. Even if you don't think he was all that great, there's no disputing that he was by far the best option that we had at the time.

"Yea bad hair and everything, and even a worse arm."

"i think he'll turn out just like the other Cluasen's, average college player, worthless pro player"

"with our luck, if he goes to Tennessee he'll be like his brothers but if he goes to like USC or Notre Dame, then he'll be some heisman candidate"

These are just some IMO disprespectful comments about some of our former players. If they were thugs or criminals then I would have no problem. If they are playing currently and messing up and actual play is criticized I have no problem, kind of like our WR las year. But I think that Casey and Rick have not gotten the respect they deserve.

So I for one say thanks to both of the Clausen brothers and I would love to have Jimmy.

And accept failure in the NFL like all the others. Grossman is the only one with a chance to change that.
I used to be shocked but it is a useless battle. You would think that the QB with the 2nd most wins for UT would get more respect from fans. They put on the orange and represented UT, that should be enough. Oh well...

I can't disagree with the Gators NFL qb failures. I have no problem with the other remark either.

I will cut the Clausen's some slack for once. They both gave their all for UT. After last year, and this year's spring practice it is becoming more and more obvious that they didn't have much leadership on the sidelines. They both overacheived considering the position that they were in. That being said I will be content if we never see another Clausen on UT's campus. My gut tells me that Crompton is going to erase some bad memories in the near future.

I would have given a toe to have Casey back on last year's roster, he was a very solid QB. I don't understand how anyone can argue that he wasn't a good COLLEGE QB. Sometimes I think most of the Casey bashing has to do alot more with his "cali" image than his play. If he had been some good ol' boy from the hills he wouldn't be such a "bad QB", and you are right people need to learn to seperate being a college QB and a pro QB. Was Munoz a bad player because he went undrafted? What if Chris Lofton or Watson never make it in the NBA (and they probably won't) does that mean they sucked as college BB players?

Geez louise people, we did not play Rick last year because we were trying to entice Jimmy. Did you not see Ainge's numbers last year? Do you need to see tape again? We played Rick because he gave us a better opportunity to win games last year. We also did not hire him as GA because we wanted to entice Jimmy. Rick did more with less than any QB we have had a UT in a long time. He is not very talented, but made up for it with an extremely good knowledge of the game and the QB position. Those are the people that make good coaches.

And, by the way.....
Jimmy Clausen Top 3:
1. Notre Dame
2. Notre Dame
3. Notre Dame

...its a done deal!

You are right about that, even when Clausen outplayed him leading up to the season Fulmer still tried like hell to keep Ainge as the starter.

I wish him the best but there is a pretty good QB in Chattanooga going to McCallie by the name of B.J. Coleman. His two favorites are Tennessee and Alabama but neither has offered.

Munoz was an average player that was terribly overrated as a college player as a result of his last name.

I can't really argue with too much with that Top 3. I might slip Southern Cal in at #3, but I've been saying for the last year that the kid is South Bend bound.

VolBeef, I agree with what you say but IMO dogging a prospect who chooses not to come to UT after being offered is different from dogging someone who is on the roster. Jimmy probably will develop into a better QB than either of his brothers if even half the hype about him is true. Of course there are going to be some fans who are bitter if Jimmy does not come to UT and he turns out to be an elite QB, especially if he plays for one of our divisional opponenets.

I read that in the ChattanoogaTimesFreePress the other day. Let me know if you want to go see him play this year.

Have seen him play many times. He has a cannon of an arm and good speed, very smart kid, but I am in no way going to put him above a 3 star and in no way is he a Jimmy Clausen. Some of you can yell about the Clausen's but we would be better off if he were to join us. It's not going to happen but we can hope.

If he were committed to UT he would be 1st team AA in the fans eyes.

Do you really think Florida cares about how their QB's do as pros? No, they want QB's who do well in college.

Or anybody with success and turns out good NFL QB's. USC and Notre Dame scream this. I'm not sure how Jimmy will do in college, I get the feeling he's looking for the best fast track to the NFL. No doubt about it though, he is the most highly touted HS QB to come out in a long time. There's a reason why every sportscaster talking head knows his name.

Was probably his best opportunity to break into a coaching career

like I had said numerous times Jimmy C was not coming to UT. Those who thought so had their heads in the clouds and some probably still do.
