JJJ

Why would anyone be eating crow when JJJ is doing what JJJ does? We all know he has it in him but for some reason he disappears. It's fair to criticize and ask why he can't sustain it?

Notice those same posters are not around defending him when he struggles.

You are absolutely right BTW

I'll take back all I said about JJJ. That performance last night will be talked about for a long time, happy for him! GBO!!

There are plenty of posters defending him when he doesn't SCORE. The ones who know rebounding and defense are part of the game too

Yes they are a few that show up every game defending him but nothing like last night and this morning. It's almost like they sat around all of January when JJJ was struggling and said to themselves - " just wait until JJJ has another good game so I can call people out. I won't bring it up until then "

I also think it's fair to question why can't we see games like this more often from him. I'm not expecting 20+ every game, but scoring 5 or less 4 or 5 games in a row against teams worse than UK is head scratching.

James has one of the purest jump shots in the game--it's beautiful. And he's 6'6"/6"7" and can handle the ball, plus an NBA body: For
him to play 27-30 minutes and only take 3 shots is unacceptable. He was a complete non-factor in our four SEC games prior to this one--didn't take more than 3 shots in any of them; was 0-2 against Vandy, 1-3 against SC. He just seems to stroll through some games mentally--a few rebounds, maybe a couple of steals and a couple of shots and that's it. He's better than that--and he needs to be active and assertive in every game if this team is to achieve its full potential. When he is, our full potential is pretty damn high.

Over many years of practice, I've developed a great recipe for a spatchcocked and marinated crow if you'd like to try it.
Oh that plate wasn’t for me (this time) but I’d never turn down a good recipe because I know I’ll be getting my serving again sooner rather than later.

You seem more ready to criticize JJJ when we don't necessarily need him to score than you are to praise him when he steps it up on the rare "off" night by Knecht
That's kind of how this works. Praise if you play well. Criticized if you don't. How in the world did you come to the conclusion that we don't need JJJ on the offensive end? Maybe, a bench gut that plays 10 minutes a game could have a role like that. Recently we have lost a game at home that he scored 2 points in 32 minutes and had to bench him twice in the second half to make comebacks.

Before this game I said that it's time for another fools gold hot streak from JJJ. He's probably gonna win us a couple more games in the next few. Good for him. I have zero confidence in him come tourny time though. He has one more chance to prove me wrong and prove the JJJ always gets a free pass crowd right.

This game only showed what JJJ is capable of doing when he's engaged and assertive offensively. The guy has averaged, like,
3 points in the four previous SEC games or somesuch--which is inexcusable for a guy with his size, shot, etc. I'm quite sure
Barnes gave him---and maybe Ziggy, too--a bit of kick in the backside leading up to this game. And the two of them came through--both
were brilliant. Ziggy with perhaps the best game of his career. As many have said, and it's obvious, we're a better team when
everyone who is capable of scoring is contributing on the offensive end.
Couldn’t have been said better.

More recently we won with him getting 26

Fair point. If he contributes 8-10 pts/game it certainly takes some of the load off of Knecht

JJJ just simply cannot play. It was a mistake to let him and Vescovi come back for the 7th year instead of trying to develop young talent.
It was a mistake to let them come back, when doing so would reasonably give this team a shot at making a terrific run? Your likes are also quite the list of “Whose Who” amongst those that seem to enjoy denigrating this team. Your hot takes are confusing. This specific team has the pieces. Try to enjoy.

Lesson 1 in why expressions like “player X can’t…” always go bad. Totally fair to point out a player is struggling. Acting like JJJ just got inept at basketball is dumb.
Spot on. The definitive statements often make comments cannon fodder for critique.

No need to take it all back. I am as happy as anyone about last night. We need sustained performance though. The next few games will give a new trend line to evaluate.

Glad to see a great performance by JJJ
However, I do not believe there is a worse defensive team in America than KY
They do not even try to guard anyone and its been like that all year

JJJ didn’t just go inept, he’s gone inept for 4-6 game stretches for 5 years. Nobody who’s watched him for his entire career has doubted JJJ can take over a game, it’s the simple fact that it is not repeatable for any sort of duration. His PPG average for his entire career is where stats/averages get misleading. If could get 8–12 EVERY game from JJJ we’d be damn near unbeatable, the problem is we get 5 game stretches like this from him; 3, 1, 0, 2, 26.

True, but you still expect players to make the open shot. A lot of guys haven't been doing that. JJJ did that last night, plus he made some plays. It ranks up with the best performances of his career. I had to check a few times to see if that was JJJ who caught the alley oop.
