Joe Milton 2.0 (merged)

Nothing more ridiculous than know nothing keyboard warriors making final judgments about a kid who just played his 6th game and people who actually played and coached are raving about, and talking out their ass about "easy throws" and "route combos" as if they watched the All-22 after the game.

I’m looking forward to McIntyre and Faizon getting on campus. At the moment, neither QB 2 or 3 are putting any pressure on Nico to improve. He doesn’t fear losing his starting role. I’m not sure how much film Nico watches either. It seems as if he doesn’t watch much because I’m not seeing progression but rather regression. I’m just not sure if Nico has the “it” factor. Maybe this loss will light a fire under his butt. We’ll see. Regardless, Nico should be feeling the heat at the moment, the desire to prove that he’s the guy everyone thought he was, and if he isn’t then he’s not the winner we all hoped he’d be.
I bet you are looking forward to the other guys showing up. You're probably a better evaluator of the QBs than Heupel anyway.

The last play showed a lack of awareness but the receivers did him no favors with dropped balls. The receivers have to get better at getting separation. Not many options out there
When receivers were open he threw poor passes far too often. They made a couple of really good catches on poorly thrown balls. Held the ball too long too often. Looked like a freshman QB that did not handle the pressure.

He had a rough game, no doubt. A lot of factors there, including the OL not handling the pass rush and our starting WR's going down. He made some bad throws, and bailed from the pocket a couple of times too early. I don't believe he looked rattled or that the situation was too big for him. He will learn from this and be much better for it.

This game proved it to me. He has a LOT of work to do. What I don’t understand is why can guys like Bryce Young and Drake Maye step in as freshman and play lights out yet Nico can’t?
Because they have that "It" factor. Nico doesn't. Joe didn't. Hendon did.. Spencer Rattleer, Johnny Football. Nico isn't elusive, he's not gonna fight for another yard. Cam Ward chess passes to an open guy. He's a gamer. Nico runs out of bounds in the waning seconds. He'd probably really rather be playing volleyball but since he has the measurables of an elite athlete and you're offered a ridiculous amount of money, why not?

That’s six words

I thought it would be obvious that the only 2 that mattered being Arch Manning

Not that Nico alone bears the responsibility of this stain, the OLine (Heard and Campble I am pointing at you) being complete swiss cheese is a major factor - but at the end of the day, the leader has to lead and if you need to point down hill RUN THE DANG BALL. At least this way they cant pin their ears back and go right at you as they did time and time again.

GTF outta here with that "he would rather be playing volleyball" BS. Look, I am complaining about Nico as loudly as anyone but it isnt because he is a coward or because he runs like Jane like Joe Milton did. If you remember, Nico was taking off running TOO MUCH at the beginning of the season and he wasnt sliding. I am sure CJH read him the riot act a time or two but now, he is not taking off enough when the pocket breaks (which was every dang play last night).

I think he intentionally didn't throw it because he didn't have a good option and he didn't want a interception added to his abysmal stats, no way he's not aware of the situation.

He froze. Just as Milton did against Ole Miss.

He's had this problem of not letting the ball go since he's been at Tennessee.

Taking 5 sacks against Iowa. Even in the Spring game he still didn't let go of the ball

He's not ready yet

Think he scrambled and lost where he was on the field and was allowed to be moved OB.
In that situation you gotta just step up and throw the 50/50 and whatever happens happens.
Hope the WR can come down with it or get the PI and one last shot
The ball has to go right in front of or into the end zone period. Nico made a freshman error.

Yeah
Actually he made a fantastic long throw when rolling out under pressure.
that was one. There are numerous others where he’s way off. Listen, these are not easy throws I’m just stating that this is the plan of every DC they play the rest of the year. Going into the game, I heard one analyst say Nico has the 4th worst completion % among P4 QBs when being pressured. He expected Ark to come after him hard & they did. We saw the result

I mean, I agree. Overall, he was lost

I have doubts that Faizon stays if we keep coming in with 8-3 types of seasons. I don’t know the kid and surely hope I’m wrong, but we need to show we can consistently not drop winnable games to keep these 5* kids .

He exposed his football IQ to us on that play. He needs to go to like Miss State. These people wanting him to continue as a starter are limp wristed losers. If no change is made Napier will bring Florida in here and whip our a.s just like he did two years ago. See if I'm right RockyTop140. A week from today just see if I'm right. Heupel's achillie hill is not making changes when needed just like the 2 coaches before him. A great coach, a great leader has zero tolerance for someone who is incompetent. If Nico starts next week then one thing I know for sure is that Josh is not a great coach. Hanging onto Martinez was a big red flag.

Reasonable analysis…it was a bad game that was poorly coached and executed. The buck stops with CJH, he didn’t have anything xtra for his guys coming out of the bye. For me, the 1st 1/2 was the worst I’ve seen under CJH since he’s been at TN. Hopefully he gets it fixed and lights up the gators next week.

It will be interesting to see if Tennessee ramps up the development of Merklinger to compete with Iamaleava for snaps as this season continues to unfold.

He does hold the ball too long and seems like he's looking for the big play instead of making short throws to pick up first downs, we'll see where he goes from here.

He missed at least 6 throws. Even on the big play late, if he doesn't throw it behind the WR, it's a TD
I agree he was off target with some throws. But we just didn’t dial up many. The throw down the field on the final drive was only even possible because of Nico’s athleticism and on a scramble drill you don’t know exactly what the wr is going to do. And he threw that ball close to 60 years while on the run. It was accurate enough. Our our previous possession the 3rd down pass to kissleman should’ve been caught.
