Joe Paterno is dead.

i just read JoPa has died this morning he had over 400 wins something like 37 bowl games please pray for his family

None of those numbers matter. The number that should be mentioned is how many kids were molested after he found out about Mr. Sandusky.

Was wondering how long it would take before somebody accused me of this.

Let me take a look into your life...

I bet you're 35 years old and about 30 pounds overweight. Probably married, but I would imagine your wife cheats on you because she is sexually unsatisfied. You only drink natty ice as That is all you can afford and you think it's awesome that you gave your five year old son Mohawk.

Essentially you're a loser who has never accomplished more than winning trivia night at your local buffalo wild wings.
Very immature.

Thank you.

Look, Joe Paterno didn't make one "mistake". He made 3,500 mistakes every day he didn't go to the police. Actually, it wasn't "mistakes" it was a serious moral flaw.

Joe Paterno, IMO, was not a good man. A good man has the character to go to the police about a potential child molestor. I don't care what else you did. A negligent act like that for nine years shows me something about him.

The first thing that should be said about him is "Paterno enabled Jerry Sandusky to rape kids for another nine years after getting an eyewitness report of potential rape when he didn't go to the police."

And the same for Graham Spanier, Mike McQueary, and Tim Curly.

Rip joepa.

Give the nonsense a rest. It is a sad day And should not be clouded by morons like Matt millen.

This is what I don't understand (if I read correctly). Is discussing his shortcomings as a decent human being nonsense? Should we only judge him on his wins and losses?

Joe Paterno directly did a lot of good for many men in their athletic, personal, and professional lives. I don't care about wins and losses.

Matt millen said he died of a broken heart. That is nonsense, and what I referred to specifically.

What happened with Sandusky was terrible. JoePa told his superiors what he was told. If Sandusky was still the DC when it happened, joepa was completely responsible. However, he informed the top brass of the university about what he was told, and made the mistake of assuming it would be handled properly. He took that burden to his grave and no one can defend him for that.

And watched as Jerry Sandusky walked around the football complex for nine years thinking "That man could be a child molestor, and nobody has gone to the police...oh well".

No, I think he might be saying respect the dead, at the least just for a day (/the day of his passing)

They'll be plenty of time later to debate his life, his merits, and how he should be remembered, but today, for now, perhaps thoughts should be more for (/condolences to) a family and friends who just lost a loved one to cancer (/taken from them early by cancer)

This is telling to me: the generational schism of this Joe Pa story.

The people that can take this story at face value are those if us that didn't see him when he was a great coach. The under 30 crowd I'd say. We don't care how many games he won. He let rapes continue to happen. I never saw anything more than a grumpy old man who cared more about how his name and program would look in the future so he buried it.
P
Those people old enough to remember him on the sidelines will remember fondly all those new years days that they saw him and the rapist Sandusky chumming it up on the sidelines and winning a few games. Yet those memories for some reason are more important than what he never did and that's take responsibility as a man and do the right thing instead of caring more about how hed be remembered.

I'm 41. The above statement appears to be written by a 13 yr old.

This is a ridiculous statement. Similar to
Michael Moore asking congressmen to sign there kids up to go to Iraq.

Actually it's not ridiculous at all. I'm sure people who are trying to defend him for what he did (or didn't do) would feel a lot different if it had been their children being molested and he did nothing about it.

I can imagine John Wayne Gacy made a lot of kids happy when he was dressed up like Pogo the Clown at their birthday parties. Not to mention all the charitable work he did
