Bashing the dc after his defense provides 4 turnovers is probably a mistake. I'd fault your offense long before I'd fault your defense.
It's sorta hard to get on the offense (dropped passes in the first half aside) when we played to the end with a second string QB.

It might have been a good idea to move Stewart back to Safety and move Hefney or Morley to CB. He did seem to get picked on a lot.

Having the defense on the field for 22 minutes that was going to be tough to overcome. Just to many injuries and too little depth.

several of those turnovers were giftwrapped.. having a D that allowed LSU's offense to be on the field for all but 9 seconds of the final half of the fourth definitely brings the D to blame.. giving up a 4th and 8 during that same drive makes the D that much more to blame.

Just too many injuries this year. LSU is a very talented and fast team. Congrats to them. Hats off the UT players for playing their butts off even though they were outmatched given all our injuries. I have felt all week and still do that UT coaches gave up this game when they called the QB draw at SC from the 5 and got Ainge hurt. Granted, he should have gone down and not fought for the yardage, but why put him at risk there? I honestly feel that had Ainge been healthly we would have been able to Outscore them. Oh well, great game.

We have one of the best DL coaches in Brooks in the nation. If they are able to run the ball against UT's defense, its not because of coaching. UT is very lucky to have him. Chavis is the LB coach, and they are usually outstanding. I just dont see calling out the coaches.

its another huge loss at home against yet another ranked sec opponet that wipes out any chance of doing anything the rest of the year. the coaches deserve some questioning.

I think the coaches are doing a great job this year. UT is much better then I expected they would be.

Dude, this is the most irresponsible thing i have seen on this board. Our d kept us in this thing with the turnovers. We only scored when we threw up prayers for Robert Superman Meachem to get. So what we gave up a lot of yards and drives. This LSU team is probably the most talented and fastet team in the nation. Dont point fingers at Chavis. He has held this team together to many times.

Prayers? Both were on the money.

But hey, lets remember last year........

How much offense can you expect throwing a redshirt freshman out against the #1 defense in the country? I don't care how much you love Chavis (and I think he's one of the best DCs in the country), LSU marched the ball down the field almost every time they had the ball, and just because our Jekyll and Hyde defense managed maybe 10 good plays doesn't mean they didn't give the game away. I can't remember the last time an opponent held the ball 41+ minutes against UT, and I'm not sure I've ever seen us be dominated in TOP like that because the defense just couldn't get a stop. The buck stops with Chavis on this one.

Would UT have won if Ainge was healthy? I doubt it. We were manhandled up front on both sides of the ball. Pass protection wasn't bad. Some of us tried to tell anyone who would listen that UT would be outmanned. So this loss, and the way it occurred, 30- 10 1st downs, 458-234 in total yards and giving up 232 yards rushing shouldn’t be surprising.

There's only so much a D coordinator can do.

But, I don't see us losing again during the regular season although there will be some close games coming up.

who put us in a downward position to begin with. fans at UT should expect us to be good. instead we hope not to have a crappy record. that is a big problem with what is wrong with the program. it should have never been allowed to sink so low.

Give me a break. Give us all a break. You really want the best DC in the country to be fired over this game? The players play the game; remember that.

Jeez.

chavis is a great def. coach. i hope like hell we keep him. a coach can only do so much, they cant tackle, cover a receiver on a switch pass, etc. go vols and i'll keep all three, phil, cut, and chavis:clapping:

Would UT have won if Ainge was healthy?

Who knows?? Not sure if we would have necessarily scored more, but one thing that I hope Ainge would have been able to do is keep the offense on the field a little bit more. The way our defense was getting lit up, a couple of extra minutes time of possession would have been nice.

Agree 100%. Anyone know of the top of their head UT's record at Neyland against ranked SEC opponents the past few years?

I usually defend Chavis (and his D players) but all of them did poor this game.

Physically bad, and Jimbo (whatever the hell his name is) pretty much owned Chavis in the 4th and throughout the whole game. I don't know many QB's that can't find an open man when given 8 seconds to throw.

The secondary doesn't know what the hells going on half the time expect our boy Hefney. Hefney is a baller son, Sunday player, write it down.

The Accountability comes to your doorstep now, Big boy. You've been somewhat "untouchable", for whatever reason. but after that Piss-Poor performance tonight (I personally counted FIFTEEN missed tackles on key plays) your number is up. The Vol defense makes mistakes that simply shouldn't be made.

We crucified Sanders (and rightfully so) and continually wonder when Fulmer's time is up. but both losses this year fall (I feel) to the Defense.

There, consider this a vent and discard it if you like.

Go be an Alabama fan, "big boy". For you to call for Chavis's head after getting beat in the last seconds by a better (yes better) team screams "look at me, i'm a bammer!!"

This ought to be stickied for the dumbest post award.

Some people can never accept that there are some Saturdays when the other team just plays better.

Absolutely ridiculous...Chavis will go when Fulmer goes. And I hope they both stick around...this was a team predicted to go 50% this year by many and we nearly beat the number 1 defense in the country with our back up QB. It was a GREAT game and although we have had trouble stopping the run all season, we have greatly exceeded expectations. I certainly enjoyed seeing Crompton run the offense, and it will be even sweeter when he learns more of the playbook.
