Cincinnati is 7th in total defense (yards allowed) this year last year they were 63rd with Jancek as DC. I've said it from day 1 Jancek as DC was/is CBJ biggest mistake.

Couldn't get two people even to agree WHAT the greatest anything is, much less WHO.

People take is crap too seriously. If a man says he's married to the greatest woman in the world, I'm not going to argue with him about it.

I did not look at anything other than total defense but they finished last season 34th nationally and are currently ranked 38th. I will include the link to where I got my info.

Currently they are giving up approximately 20 more yards per game.

2013- players are terrible
2014- players are young
2015- players didn't live up to potential. Freshmen coming in will help
2016- new staff. They need time

What the discussion was before it got steered away was that Jancek is a good recruiter and that ranking validates that point that he can recruit. Now the jury is still out on the coaching part but if we continue to recruit the way we are and Jones has to make a move it will be easy to hire a new DC with all the talent that will be on roster.

I don't expect Butch will do anything this year, but I also don't expect to see any improvement in the defense next year

This is coming from someone that pumped sunshine the last 5 years

I contend the defensive recruiting is in spite of Jancek not because of Jancek. Thig and CBJ with help from Elder and Stripling are the recruiters making it happen.

That may be the case but you have to agree every where he has been he has had talent on defense and we currently have a impressive group of recruits coming in on the defensive side of the ball. I am still not 100% sold on him but I am willing to give him this year and judge him next year.

If we do not see improvement next year I believe Jones will be forced to make a move as year 3 will be the year he is judged and he cannot risk a set back in recruiting with a DC who cannot get the job done.

I agree for the most part but Jancek was only the defensive coordinator at Cincinnati for one year (2012). He was the co-coordinator there in 2010 and 2011 but Tim Banks called all the defensive plays and was considered the actual defensive coordinator. Even at Georgia Willie Martinez was the defensive coordinator and Jancek was the co-coordinator for only one year before being fired. Basically before this year Jancek has had one season of calling defensive plays as a coordinator.

I know Jones likes continuity but it will not surprise me if he makes a move after this season if the right guy is available.

All I am sayin is that when that kind of statement is made, jokingly or not, some people take it seriously. I have read many posts on VN making fun of the coaching staff saying "best coaching staff in America, what a joke." It would be better if it was never said.

When I see Butch Jones and his staff with the talent they have hand selected...not Dooley and his crews'....actually choke or have the results of the last 3 games against the top SEC elite....then I will agree with all the hate on these guys.

Until then...I have seen a wanna be head coach in Kiffin have awful results on the field with top 5 level recruiting classes...Muschamp is wasting top 5 level talent in Florida on a weekly basis. When Butch is doing the same with that level of athletes then you guys and myself can say fire so and so or all of them.

Right now Butch is trying to simply turn chicken poop into chicken salad with left overs.
