If Gruden was worth his salt, dont you think he would be coaching in the NFL?

Serious ignorance posted here...

Gruden vs a LA Tech loser... who else on the planet would pick the later and have a chance to comment outside an anonymous forum?

This logic has to be among the least credible sets of comments ever posted... for those who actually believe such stuff, you missed your historical calling from James Jones at the Jonestown Massacre. :hi:

My only reservation regarding this post is the fact that I can only "Like" it one time.

If we hired Gruden, I would buy season tickets and fly in for every home game.

How many other fans do you think would do that?

How long do you think it would take for Tennessee to see a return on its 7 million or so a year investment (counting assistants' salaries)?

I'll answer that, the second Jon Gruden takes the podium announcing he's hired.

I'm fine with whatever, as long as we start competing and winning.

That said, in year 3 or 4, if we still can't beat bama, lsu, fla and ga, who all have recruiting advantages v UT, will he be run off again? Probably. If so, where do you go from there?

When the coaching search heats up, there are posters with credible reputations from past searches.

FWIW, some of the guys here who proved to have the best insights are: Justin, Lex, SpringBok, and GA Vol.

I'd add Z to the list from observations, but I'm not sure if he posted under a different name back then.

Count must be paid by Dooley as there's no way anyone could actually think the way he does about coaches and UT. The idea that CDD is the only guy who'd take the job, for example, is among the most ignorant recurring posts on the board. And, if not CDD, who else but another loser would consider it... has to be the second most ignorant recurring posts. The consistent theme in both: keep my incompetent boss, CDD, employed.

I'm sure there was someone else in the profession who would have taken the job in January, 2010. But, it's not like we chose Dooley over a list of proven winners who were beating our door down.

I don't accept mediocrity, and I don't want to keep giving CDD more time just because he took the job when he did. Barring a big season, I think it's important to make a change this year.

I'd love to have Gruden. If he would have taken the job in January, 2010, if offered, surely he'd be here. Our situation is much more favorable now if we do choose to go looking again, than it was the last time.

Cloning experiments with Gen Neyland?

Seriously tho. UT does not have the recruiting luxuries of those teams you mentioned.

UT first has to get outside of the box to recruit. I think Gruden's name brings them in on the front end. To keep that momentum he has to win, and put guys in the league. He does that and he will negate the geography problem. IMO.

I probably wouldn't buy season tickets just because I don't have the money.:)

But I would go to more games than I currently do for sure.

The name will sell itself for sure, and in more ways than just ticket sales.

A source at PF Changs just informed somebody I've heard of that CJG was just seen ordering a double cheeseburger, sweet tea, and fried twinkie at Dentons on Kingston Pike. Al Wilson was buying.

Truth.

Years and years ago, rumors were around that Terry wanted to coach and he wanted to coach the Vols. Can't remember the year, but it was prior to the internet.

Wow! Never heard that one before. Terry got hit in the head a lot so doubt that he can even find Knoxville these days.

Jon Gruden works for me!

I saw Chip Kelly's bunch last Saturday and that offense is very interesting. It is no huddle spread like so many others use, but they snap the ball with like 20-22 seconds remaining on the play clock. It was like watching the ole LA Lakers Showtime years. They really get up and down the field. I will toss in a million to hire ole Chip for the Vols

Al Wilson doesn't have to buy food in TN.

I have so heard that he loved the fried twinkies....so that must be truth.

I know a high end construction contractor who is going out to look at the site on some east Tennessee land this afternoon. Some high roller owns the property...wife used to be a cheerleader somewhere around here.

YOUR sources are questionable.

This is no game.

Chip Kelly would be a disaster. The defenses are just too good in the SEC. All it would take is a couple of stops to fall behind, and when you would score it would be in less than a minute. Defense would be absolutely gassed by the 4th quarter.

It works in a conference like the Pac 10. I don't think it would be successful in this league.

...and in before it worked for Auburn, they weren't snapping the ball every 8 seconds and they had one of the greatest QBs in the history of the league running the show.

Wall Street Journal reporting that Chip Kelly is not worthy of sniffing CJG's boxer shorts.
