Chip Kelly would be a disaster. The defenses are just too good in the SEC. All it would take is a couple of stops to fall behind, and when you would score it would be in less than a minute. Defense would be absolutely gassed by the 4th quarter.

It works in a conference like the Pac 10. I don't think it would be successful in this league.

...and in before it worked for Auburn, they weren't snapping the ball every 8 seconds and they had one of the greatest QBs in the history of the league running the show.

There is that side of it. You have to have pretty much two complete defensive units. Tennessee Tech had the ball for about 40 minutes and the ducks only had it for 20. It was fun to watch!

Wall Street Journal reporting that Chip Kelly is not worthy of sniffing CJG's boxer shorts.

True buuutttt.....if, and when, Jon Gruden gets back into coaching. It ain't gonna be in the college game. We can afford Chip Kelly and he will come to Knoxville.

Our situation is much more favorable now if we do choose to go looking again, than it was the last time.

The biggest difference in the situation is that we're not trying to do a search before the end of this week. If we decided to search now with the objective of naming a coach on Sunday, that's about as handicapped as we can make the job. And, it'd produce about the same caliber of takers as did the last 3-day search.

Proven coaches do not knock on our door, we knock on theirs... then we knock again... and again...and again.. IT TAKES TIME AND EFFORT.

Use the effort required by Bama to hire Saban who was looking to leave the NFL... had they done the search in 3 days, Saban would have been eliminated, but I don't think Bama would have fans using that search as anything meaningful towards producing candidates. We need to drop all references to that 3-day tour that don't include the words ignorant and irrelevant.

I do agree that we're in better shape, but only marginally. We have players engrained in a horrible culture of quitting. That has to be fixed... and frankly I don't know how many of our players would be around if/after a Saban-like demand was placed upon them.

There's a lot of work to be done to fix the program!

I think the only thing we disagree on is how long UT had to find a coach during the last search. You think they should have taken more time, even as the gap before signing day approached. I think they needed someone ASAP to provide some stability and get some players in here.

It really doesn't matter now, as that's in the past and can't be changed.

Exactly. There's a huge difference in a coach leaving abruptly for a better job (in his opinion) and a coach being fired for poor performance at the end of a season.

If Dooley doesn't pan out, then there will be a proper coaching search with adequate time to get the best available candidate.

I don't understand why some of these people get so worked up on stuff so out of theircontrol. I just want to see a dominating performance against Akron.

Keeping things in perspective.....Farragut Press reports sighting of CJG walking on water at the Fountain City Duckpond on his way to a high level strategy session with Johnny Majors.

Money.

You probably will see one. Wouldn't be surprised if it weren't so dominate, but it is a good chance we win the game easily.

It's the next two games after Akron that really matter.

If you see them splitting a pint of Jack Daniels, it is a done deal

I saw him eating a Petro in front of the Neyland statue.

Seriously though, the post that said he discussed the Vols while discussing the Titans on ESPN yesterday shouldn't be written on VN if it's not true. There is a difference between posting stuff that reasonable people will know is a joke, and posting something as a fact to get a reaction.

I wonder if Jon would be willing to take the Titans job?

That's my point.

I want to beat Akron. After that, all of our attention should be on Georgia.

Until we have a vacancy at head coach, I am not going to speculate what ifs.

Ah come on. Its s message board. Gotta talk about what happens to Dooley after we get rolled up like a cheap burrito by Georgia.

Why are you bothering to post in this thread then? Your attention is being diverted. Focus man!

Where did Gruden say this? I flipped through the re-airing of NFL Live and didn't see it. What show did he say this on? Because, it wouldn't be the first time someone posted stuff that wasn't true to get a reaction during a time like this.

Not sure which show it was, but he did say it.

I quoted him word for word from DVR.

Are insinuating the Farragut Press is reporting less than factual information? I'll have you know its a publication of the highest integrity and journalistic standards.

I was thinking, vols beat georgia on saturday, georgia fires richt on sunday, georgia hires dooley monday, tenn hires pat summitt as interim head coach.

That's the most realistic scenario in my mind.

Could have been the Mike and Mike radio show? That gets aired on the ESPN TV networks.

It might have been. It was just a short little segment on if the Titans could recover from their horrendous start.

It was on in the background until he mentioned UT. My ears perked up then.

Interesting. Who told you this? Did anyone hear ESPN radio this morning? Did anyone hear Gruden on there talking about the Denver/Atlanta game among other things? He said some interesting things for sure. Said he would seriously consider getting back in coaching but not necessarily the NFL.

There's some real smoke coming from him regarding college ball.

....please be fire.
