Interesting. Who told you this? Did anyone hear ESPN radio this morning? Did anyone hear Gruden on there talking about the Denver/Atlanta game among other things? He said some interesting things for sure. Said he would seriously consider getting back in coaching but not necessarily the NFL.

How many times has Gruden said he wouldn't mind getting back into coaching in the past 6 months?

It's more than he said in the past two years combined.

And he has to be referring to UT when he says not "necessarily" NFL...

I can't think of any other major programs that may be looking for another coach in a few months.

I think Chizik gets another year at Auburn and Arkansas is hiring Malzahn.

He's obviously serious about it as I've posted on here his brother said the timing has to be right (in the next year or two) but John wants to get back into coaching. The interest he would have in the Tennessee job is already out there. You see people in the media already saying he'd be interested in the job. I just choose to believe his brother and people close to him and what they have been saying recently.

I hope he likes his in-laws

Arkansas may make a run at Charlie Strong too.

When the coaching search heats up, there are posters with credible reputations from past searches.

FWIW, some of the guys here who proved to have the best insights are: Justin, Lex, SpringBok, and GA Vol.

I'd add Z to the list from observations, but I'm not sure if he posted under a different name back then.

Count must be paid by Dooley as there's no way anyone could actually think the way he does about coaches and UT. The idea that CDD is the only guy who'd take the job, for example, is among the most ignorant recurring posts on the board. And, if not CDD, who else but another loser would consider it... has to be the second most ignorant recurring posts. The consistent theme in both: keep my incompetent boss, CDD, employed.

I know no inside sources however...I just comment on what the insiders say :hi:

The thought of that ESPN press conference announcing his hiring sends a thrill up my leg...

Pardon the Chris Matthews reference.

I want to be optimistic, I can't help but think people may look at us like we looked at Arkansas fans who thought they had a shot with Gruden (although there are clear advantages for us).

Also, I fear that getting our hopes up may lead to unnecessary disappointment with hiring a fine candidate like Charlie Strong.

That said, if the money will be available, Tennessee should certainly pursue Gruden.

I think Strong would be a very good hire as well if the job were to open. I think he'd be #2 on my list behind Gruden (who would far and away be #1 on my list - no one else would be close).

I like Strong. Want to see what he does this year.

Hell, if Jon doesn't want to come here, I wouldn't mind Jay.

I know his wife was a Vols cheerleader. Was she actually from Tennessee? If so, what town? Are her parents still there?

I believe she is from Tennessee but I dont know much about her other than what you mentioned.

I'm pretty sure John was also a GA or something at Tennessee under Majors.

I'm not an insider by any means but I have gotten to know his brother since he moved to Cincy over a year ago and when he says his brother wants to get back into coaching and would want the Tennessee job if it came open in the next year or two I would have no reason not to believe it.

What exactly has he said regarding Jon and UT?

Give me some exact quotes here! LOL!

LOL I dont have any "exact" quotes. We were just talking about John in passing getting back into coaching and that Tennessee is the job he'd love to get. That's about it.

You add that to people in the media (who I'm sure have sources close to him as well -- since he now works in the media) alrleady saying he'd be interested in the Tennessee job and I dont see why anyone would blow off his potential interest. It's out there for sure.

Jay is a very good up and coming coach in his own right. I think he'll make a fine Head Coach somewhere one day whether in be in college or the NFL. Very good offensive mind for sure.

If this is really the case, and we're willing to spend the money, I really don't see how we can keep Dooley unless he goes 10-2 or something completely unexpected.

OP, definitely have heard this about 20 times...and seen at least two other threads on volnation alone saying the exact same thing...long story short, don't hold your breath

I agree completely. It would definitely be one of those home-run hires that very few schools get lucky with. He's probably the biggest "name" out there among all current / inactive coaches. His celebrity has gone through the roof even more since he's been working with ESPN and yes that is a huge deal when it would come to recruiting, getting media exposure, etc...

Montrell, how much you think it would take to get him?

I'd say $5 - $7 mil range. You'd have to pay the guy like you would a Saban or Meyer no doubt, but that is what it takes now if you want the best. And the return would also be huge for Tennessee. No way donations from alumni, boosters, would not go through the roof immediately.
