Many are making the mistake of linking the amount available to spend on a new coach to the current AD operating deficit and/or Dooley's buyout. That is false.

The only limitation on a potential coaches' salary is what Dave Hart wants to pay someone. If he deems it'll take $5M/year to get a coach to resurrect the program then I have no doubt that's what will be paid.

I keep seeing people saying UTAD can't afford to fire Dooley this year. That's a fallacy. Would you spend an additional $2M for salary in FY13 if you thought it would ultimately increase revenues by $5M as a result of increased attendance? Any buyout is handled separately and doesn't fall on the same books.

The ones that were floating around that showed 4 mil in the red. My number is just a guess on the highest they would go; considering the amount we are already down, what it would cost to buy out all the coaches(under the assumption a new coach would want his own staff), buy outs of old coaches, new salaries as a whole and economy. One has to figure that a big enough hire will generate revenue, renewed excitement would generate support and hopefully ticket sales. If the right hire is made at 3.5 mil, it could become a positive. You are taking a chance bringing in someone in the 5 mil range, cause if it doesn't work you are in a bigger hole, not sure UT is willing to take that chance given where they stand now.

3.5 would get you a solid hire though.

Im not sure how much stock you can put in those numbers when trying to project future ones. Spending 5 mil doesn't guarantee a better hire than 3.5 mil. But I don't see how its that much more of a gamble either. Especially if you hire your top target.

Agreed. If money was truly such an issue then they would have gone ahead and given Dooley his extension already. It would at least end any speculation and maybe help recruiting a little bit.

What were they smoking?

If we had beat Florida this thread would be buried on VN.
Odd that as close as I follow the Vols and know several boosters, 1 of which is friends with Grudens mother-n-law yet there was no smoke that I was aware of.

Yeah, it's confusing how threads like this blow up after another poor performance against an SEC rival, isn't it?

Thanks yall. I sure do hope the letter from Hart is toward fans in support of CDD. Whatever is discussed behind closed doors is fine, and if he keep losing then it is what it is. Just need to support him to give him a chance to do what he needs to. The guy hasn't done anything to deserve what he has been getting around here. I understand losing is unacceptable, but at least he's doing what he is doing with the best interest of UT in mind. People forget that the guy prior to him didn't respect UT AT ALL!!! For goodness sake he put up players of another school up, and Hammy was to much of a coward to stand up for it. smh

Could have stopped there. Therein lies the problem with Dooley.

When already operating at a loss, an extra 1.5 a year is quite a bit. Not to mention that's what, 3 mil more than we are paying Dooley? Either way, someone would have to fund that for a bit.

Spending 5 mil doesn't get you an automatic better hire, but 5 mil is what it would take to get Gruden here IMO. Why spend 5 when you can get a solid hire at 3.5? Probably even 3.

We are looking for Gruden, not just a solid hire.:loco:

People arguing about the money woes in the AD don't seem to realize that a Gruden hire puts butts in the seats immediately which translates into more money for the AD.

I haven't submitted it yet, what are the perks?

Camraderie mostly......and the envy of all who aren't part of the in-crowd.

Then if course you get to take at least partial credit when the Volunteers begin their long awaited renaissance.

And a T-shirt. And Jacksons famous donuts.

Charter membership applications are still available up until kick-off tomorrow. Perks are obvious.
