Bump wasn't needed, this was already the top thread when I logged in today...as it was yesterday, and the day before that, the day before that.....

you get the point....:boredom:
It is a Grudenite's duty to make sure this thread remains in it's rightful place.

Really and truly, in the college game, no coach is worth 5 mil. Too many variables to be spending that much.

Given how sports is money driven from all angles, that is relative to what you get for your 5 mil. If Bama wins another NC this year Im sure their rate of return on Sabans contract is well worth it.

When already operating at a loss, an extra 1.5 a year is quite a bit. Not to mention that's what, 3 mil more than we are paying Dooley? Either way, someone would have to fund that for a bit.

Spending 5 mil doesn't get you an automatic better hire, but 5 mil is what it would take to get Gruden here IMO. Why spend 5 when you can get a solid hire at 3.5? Probably even 3.

Spend 3 million on a coach and be the 3rd or 4 th beat team in the SEC or pay 5 million and be in line next to Bama.

Easy choice, gotta spend money to make money.

They're selling out scrimmages. Apparrel flying off the racks. Standing room only at EVERY home game.

Yeah, shelling out for an elite coach isn't worth it all.

Been a long day , what did I miss?

Aw, the morning kinda started off rough b/c we had some intruders..But they were taken care of by the use of force.:horse:

And we've almost converted someone else into a Grudenite, but still needs some work.:)

I thought the thread was done for a second. It was locked when I last checked. Good to see it made it through the day.

So 5 mil guarantee's this? Sweet

Do a thread search for "The Cost of Winning", I'm mobile or I'd link it for you.

A thread I started sometime in the summer, you may notice a trend.

Note where Dooley's pay is within the SEC, the coaches around him in pay and the results of Dooley and said coaches.

Everything you are saying is spot on. Think of Knoxville on the weekend of the Florida game. That is what Tuscaloosa is like every weekend. $$$ Being made everywhere.

Where would 3.5 place a coach on the list of starting salaries? How much did Bama pay Saban starting out? He makes 5.3 now, after 2 NCs.

Pay 5 mil for Gruden, make him 2nd highest paid coach, when he hasn't proven he can coach the college game?

Whens the last time we had a sell out at a spring game? Theres a school in my neck of the woods that has over 100,000 in attendance.

IMO, it will take an offer of at least $5M to get Gruden to UT..And someone else mentioned teliling him he has $3M to assemble the staff wants.

Btw Gahlee, I'm with you that we have to spend. We differ on cost vs risk. I tried searching for your thread, but didn't see, I'm on mobile so will try again later.
