Jon Gruden thread (merged)

Ridiculous....You put Jon Gruden in a living room with a top player and his parents and I promise you he'll win 90% of the time...Have you ever actually listened to him talk?...He is one of the most personable people I've ever heard in my life...He has that way of making you like him and he has the gift of talk..I have zero doubt he could land us a top 5 class every season..That is one of the biggest appeals of hiring him...Plus he's well known and seen every week on tv.

I've never posted this, because I don't want to be "that guy", but I've actually had a few brief convos with the Gru. My father and step-mother graduated with his wife, Cindy. My step-mother actually cheered with her and they still talk once in a blue moon. I worked up the nerve to approach him at a reunion and spent about 10 minutes talking football. He has a certain intensity in conversation that is a little overwhelming, but I can't imagine an 18 year old kid not buying ever single word Gru feeds him.

I am not a journeyman of this thread so if this is sarcasm based on previous posts then I am unable to detect.

If you are serious then links or it didn't happen.

It didn't happen. There are reports all over the net that ESPN has never relased the figure. He may make 4 million after endorsements.

Others have speculated it is south of 3 million. Doesn't really matter....we'll have to spend at least $5 million to get him.....and the word is we'll do it.

Boro-Vol has no idea what Gruden currently earns.

He makes many posts as if they're all facts but has never posted 1 link to prove anything he says.

I'll believe we get a new coach and who that coach is whenever AD Hart holds a press meeting to make the announcement.

VFL...GBO!!!

Why are you still here?

I disagree with #2, gruden has a super bowl and coached the raiders up as well. People can say whatever they want about it being dungy's team but dungy couldnt win it with them.

I didnt say I was worried about coaching, I'm worried about the hours a college coach keeps to be successful.

Pro coaches puts in way more hours and days than a college. If you were referring to what he does now, then yes, coaching is more for him than his TV job.

Nope. More like wiped his *** with my favorite NFL team. Yes, he won the SB with the Bucs. However, given the choice and the ability, and knowing then what I know now, would I trade that SB title for Jon Gruden never having been the head coach in Tampa?? Absolutely, without a second's hesitation.

And for the record, no, I do NOT support a coaching change.

This is....hilarious. You are retarded if you would trade a Super Bowl ring for no Gruden. Tony Dungy had Peyton manning for how many years before he won one? It's hard to win a Super Bowl. This "with someone else's player" crap is just outrageous nonsense. You still have to coach and win games.

Wasnt it noted he wanted 3.4 to consider Miami and 2 per yr for his brother as OC...

So, any thoughts on the chance that we FINALLY land Bisaccia? I know he was promoted to assistant head @ San Diego...but still.

Nope, that's another pipedream like Gruden coming to Tennessee is.

I bleed Tennessee Orange and always will and I support my Vols in good times and in bad times like all real Tennessee fans do.

I support all our coaches and players and I always will.

NOBODY on here has any say whatsoever if CDD will stay or not and you have zero say on who will be our next coach IF, and a big if, CDD were actually fired which I doubt at this moment.

CDD has a rock solid contract with a HUGE buyout and Tennessee is almost $4 Million in the red thanks to Mike Hamilton and NOT 1 big donor thinks everyone will get together and come up with $20 Million to get rid of CDD and try to hire a big name new coach.

There's reality my friend but you keep living in this silly thread and feeding yourselves pipedreams and BS and see where that gets you.

VFL...GBO!!!

blah, blah, blah. shuddup already with the BS

2. Jon Gruden

Trust me, he's going to be interested in Tennessee.

He's not going to pull a John Madden and become a television commentator for the rest of his professional career. I've been told that the grind of being a coach in the NFL isn't as appealing to him as being able to go out and recruit the top players in the country and develop them.

The Vols would have to pull out the checkbook and pay him $5 million a year.

But if they're willing to do this, Gruden, a former Vol graduate assistant who married a Tennessee cheerleader, is going to listen.

In fact, I think there's a good chance that if Tennessee will show him the money that Jon Gruden is your next Volunteer coach.

Gruden makes about $4 million at ESPN for working 1-2 days per week. How many more millions will it take to get him to take the UT job, working 80 hour weeks, under pressure?

If he were to take the TN HC job it would be for the challenge and love of coaching.
