2. Jon Gruden
Trust me, he's going to be interested in Tennessee.
He's not going to pull a John Madden and become a television commentator for the rest of his professional career. I've been told that the grind of being a coach in the NFL isn't as appealing to him as being able to go out and recruit the top players in the country and develop them.
The Vols would have to pull out the checkbook and pay him $5 million a year.
But if they're willing to do this, Gruden, a former Vol graduate assistant who married a Tennessee cheerleader, is going to listen.
In fact, I think there's a good chance that if Tennessee will show him the money that Jon Gruden is your next Volunteer coach.
Shhhhh :shhh: The adults are talking...Go watch cartoons or something.

Conflicting reports on that. Some are that no we did not....others say we weren't prepared to pony up the $$. Either way it was a critical failure by the administration. So are you guys assuming that Hamilton never contacted Gruden in the first place about the position in 09 or that he was uninterested then, but interested now?
At their Anniversary back in July when his family asked him if he would consider coaching at UT his response was: I love the University of TN, I will do whatever I can to help but I have no desire to coach UT.
Perhaps it was smoke and mirrors at the time, at this point it is anyones guess. If he comes he comes, if he don't he don't is how I look at it.

"I will not be the coach at the University of Alabama"
Nick Saban
Also.....it would have been VERY unprofessional to say anything other than that while we have a sitting coach.
I disagree with #2, gruden has a super bowl and coached the raiders up as well. People can say whatever they want about it being dungy's team but dungy couldnt win it with them.
I didnt say I was worried about coaching, I'm worried about the hours a college coach keeps to be successful.
I don't believe the 2 men or cut from the same cloth, the incident I described happened in front of his family and close friends. Your incident happened to reporters.
Pro coaches puts in way more hours and days than a college. If you were referring to what he does now, then yes, coaching is more for him than his TV job.
lot of you guys seem highly optimistic, how about each of you put down a percentage of nhow likely you think that Gruden is coaching UT next year.
