Jon Gruden thread (merged)

Well, we will need $10 million to fire Dooley an hire Gruden. I love watching people spend other people's money.

It's a message board talking about coaching candidates. What do you expect? And I fully expect money not to be an issue for UT football.

I don't disagree with that. Reality is that if we win Saturday this thread dies. We lose and a lot of goobs in this tread get closer to saying I told you so.

Winning 1 game doesn't make Dooley and this team turn the corner. They will have to win 2 of 3 in October to do that. If they do that, he will shut me up, and most others who doubt his ability.

Just to be honest, we all knew this was going to be Dooley best year to show what he can do. Next year is going to be a likely disaster, if all the big guys leave, which is likely to happen.

Of course it is. 90% of posters would agree with that.

The problem? Every week he coaches seems to show he's not the answer.

Exactly. He's in year 3 and there has been zero evidence that he will, or more importantly even has the ability to get it done here.

Having it and spending it are two different things.

And I think UT will have it. Remember, Raleigh, Fulmer, and Pearl's buyouts all end this year, and Hamilton's end in the spring. Plus, UT football is in such a rut right I fully expect the boosters to come out and give the money if need be.

I don't think Cut would have been a good hire. I just have a hard time believing all this " the money has already decided" talk. Only because I have a relative who is major donor and his opinion is that the best thing for UT right now is for Dooley to be successful.

This hire would bring in much more money than it would ever cost.

Exactly. It might hurt UT athletics for a few months, but eventually, it would pay off. Gruden would bring in massive amount of exposure to the program, which would then gets fans to spend money.

Going by what you just said, if Dooley is fired we will have a very similar situation as when he was hired.

No he won't. Our roster is in much better shape than it was when Dooley took over. I firmly believe if we hire the right coach (and he can recruit) UT can compete for an SEC East crown in year two and win an SEC title in year three.

Not necessarily, but the level of talent will be a little better than what he had. We still aren't elite in the talent department, and it will take an elite coach to get us there.

Your link is broke homie. Not my cousin, but he is right up there. Torch fund at UT as well as a major donor to the athletic facilities. If we fire Dooley, I hope we break the bank on a new coach. I will believe it when I see it though.

Sounds very familiar. "2012 is the year we are back!" was the phrase of the day.

I said with the right coach.

UT can't compete for a crown right now, but pieces are there. If the new coach can recruit well, then he can compete for an SEC title in 3-4 years.

Fixed....G.

So you don't have to go back:
