Jon Gruden thread (merged)

I was reading one of the "next head coach" threads, and it reminded me of what I heard last week on the Sports Animal. Its not my knowledge, just passing along what I heard. Thought I would give t its own thread because VN usually tees off on this subject, and I hadn't seen it posted anywhere else.

Josh Ward was interviewing Clay Travis one day last week, maybe Thursday, and asked him who would be his short list of coaches. I am paraphrasing, but his response was something like Jon Gruden would be his first choice and he knew for a fact that he would be interested in the job now. Didn't elaborate on why or anything, but I've heard before he has land here somewhere :) I don't know how much weight Travis's word carries or anything, but thought I would pass it along.

IMHO, If this is the case, let the season play out. If Dooley still hasn't showed anything (beaten a team he shouldn't have, beaten a ranked team, or at least play everybody close), then definitely get Gruden if possible. If Dooley can be competeive the rest of the way, maybe knock off a ranked team, and get the team respect in the league again, maybe he can get it done.

Either way, I am going to support the team and current staff, as always, throughout the season because thats what we should do as true fans. If a change happens, it happens. If it don't, it don't. Still going to sing Rocky Top and rout on the Vols!

Hmmmm.....interesting. Hadn't heard anything about this. Maybe someone should start a Gruden thread.

I think 8 only saves him if we have no idea who we can get to replace him.

I see what you are saying. Just don't think that will be the case. No Hammy+not 2 weeks before NSD+better roster= More coaches interested, quality coaches.

He's a top notch rb coach and recruiter, there aren't many who would want to replace him

Yes. As for Sal, coordinators know the risk when they step up from a position coach. They are the first to go when a HC wants to save his job. Not saying Sal will be gone, but he knew the risk when he took the job if he is let go.

Would Dooley sacrifice Chaney to save his job for another year? Hypothetically, if it would work.

If we don't hire Gruden, I wonder how long it will be before you post again?

Been here going on 7 years. I'm not going anywhere. I get to have a wishlist like anybody else.

Quit trying to step on my dreams.

BTW....this is not the first Gruden thread. We did this 3 years ago prior to the current travesty. We'll move on and support whoever gets hired, until they give us a reason not to.

This just in, 'Boro-vol sez he dreamed that Gruden was in as the Vol's coach next season. And that the are Vols favored to win it all next season.

What more do you need?

:)
