No doubts in YOUR mind but there's LOTS of doubts in the mind of AD Hart.

Some boosters already said NO WAY to sending in BIG $$$ for another coaching staff buyout PLUS more BIG $$$ to pay DOUBLE what our current staff is being paid in order to hire a completely new coaching staff.

Our biggest supporter has BIG $$$ going out into his sons political PAC for many more years so UT gets LOTS less of that big oil $$$ now my friend.

This is all 100% TOTAL BS anyway because Gruden is NEVER going to leave his very easy BIG $$$$$ job to go anywhere and have to work his butt off 11 1/2 months a year and recruit and beg 17 year old kids to come to Tennessee and make good grades and play football for him.

FACT...Grudens last coaching job he was FIRED from even though he took Tony Dungys team and won a superbowl with them.

After Dungys team won the superbowl Gruden coached the Tampa Bay Bucs into a DOWNhill spiral until they finally FIRED him.

I wouldn't even want Gruden even if he did want to come to Tennessee.

VFL...GBO!!!

I can't wade through this whole thread...here is what I know about Gruden.

College coaching experience:
GA at UTK under Walt Harris
QB coach at South East Missouri State
Tight Ends coach at Univ of Pacific
WR coach at Pitt

NFL Experience
Offensive quality control coach at San Francisco
WR coach at Green Bay
OC at Philadelphia
HC at Oakland (40-28 overall)
HC at Tampa (Super Bowl win in year 1, then went 45-51 over the next 6 years)

When I look at his college experience, I see no Coordinator time and no Head Coach time. When I look at his NFL experience, I see he got fired twice after under performing for the bulk of his career. Yes, he won a Super Bowl, but there is debate on whether that was him or the previous coach setting things up right.

Other than the fact that he is a great TV personality, can anyone explain the interest in Gruden? This is an honest question. I like what I see him doing on TV, not sure I see why some of us are so passionate about bringing him here as the replacement for Dooley (which I don't see happening but that is another topic). Can someone lay out the logic for me?

thanks,

Dooley was never a coordinator. He has a losing record... forget about big wins. He was a pencil pushing position coach for Saban. You are not in a position of strength to call someone else's logic into question.

You are wrong Jay. He was a recruiting coordinator. The man is more than qualified to be a head coach based on that alone. :ermm:

That's a lot like a community organizer isn't it?

Pretty much. I hope people know I wasn't being serious with that post. And I'm not saying fire Dooley either. He has his chance to prove himself this season. That being said , I don't see it going too good even though I hope we win them all.

Oh , and if we have to make a change. Bring Jon Gruden to Tennessee. :crossfingers:

It's good. Thought it was funny.

Could you stick to the dang question for once? I asked a legitimate question about Gruden. I did not ask about Dooley. I did not call anyone's logic into question, I asked what it was, and so far it is pretty lame. Half the damn fanbase wants to replace the coach sitting at 3-1 with a guy that was just over 50% in his last job and I would like to understand why. Is he worth the risk? Does he have the right credentials and experience? Would he have a plan to save the recruiting class, build the next and so on? Does he know hoe to coach college players? Does he know how to execute a good game plan that could succeed in the SEC? Can he work with the boosters effectively? Can he build a staff and manage it effectively? Before we take a risk of this magnitude again, we need to have some assurance he can do these things and more or we are just being foolish.

Look, I realize you've quit on this coach and team and are using your blogger title to do everything you can to ensure he gets fired, but that was never the point of my questions. If you can't answer my question with civility, then please just go write about basketball and leave me out of your conversations.

thanks,

Valid points but I think the heart of the matter is exactly that.. HEART. Vol fans want to see some heart and some passion. Not knocking Dooley but when Chucky talks everyone feels it whether you agree or disagree with him. Dooley says all the right things but do you "feel" it?

And for those who think he cant recruit do your homework..the man has been out of coaching for 4 years now and still gets up at 3.30am every morning to review tape..I think he could handle and would thrive in recruiting.

He also forgot, by his own logic, who was responsible for the team Gruden beat in that Super Bowl.

I love that argument.

Also that he was the "tuck rule" from getting Oakland to the Super Bowl over Brady and the Pats. Gruden may not ever happen but he is the best possible scenario available. I would rather have someone from the Bill Walsh tree than try to out Saban Bama with his assistants.

Had it not been for Monte Kiffin, Gruden wouldn't even be in the discussion right now. I honestly don't think he's a viable candidate, mainly because he's not been a college coach in so long. Dooley's replacement needs solid SEC level coordinator experience, and needs to be a relentless recruiter. If Gruden came to UT, I think he would get burnt out rather quickly. It takes a special kind of breed to coach here, mainly because the recruiting is so demanding.

First, I'm not a blogger. 2nd I'm no fan of basketball. What on earth you are ranting about?

Now, you speak of civilty yet curse at those that want a credible coach. Again, logic? We were foolish hiring Dooley. Undoing that mistake is a positive step.

I have my answers. It is up to you to find your own. Google is a great place to start.

Everyone hates you now.

Except me. I tend to agree with you.
