If that guy is Gruden, why the hell wouldn't you?

Because it's akin to Fulmer in a way. The guy won a ring almost 10 years ago, yet floundered around in his division for years, and got fired for bombing the last part of a season after going 9-7 the season before. Many people forget how bad that Bucs team lost that year, and the fact that Gruden went 4-12 in 2006. The comparisons to Gruden's and Fulmer's career are scary, if you actually look at it.

That's just more proof that Tampa's defense won that championship. Just a year before, Trent Dilfer won a SB with the Ravens, yet no college is knocking down Brian Billick's door to have him coach.

I like Billick too. Who knows who has tried to hire him. He is a bit on the arrogant side but when your winning we call that swag.

He never had a losing record with the Raiders and got screwed out of a Super Bowl chance. Want to give that credit to Monte and Dungy too? They have been real good since Jon left. :ermm:

The owner of the Bucs said they fired Dungy (with a winning record) for inconsistency on offense. He was hired to fix it and that's exactly what he did. And you and I both know that Dungy has no ring without #18.

No, he just doesn't have the relationships in HS's we need right now to recruit with the big dogs. Do we even know if he wants to recruit?? Studying film all day, is COMPLETELY different than recruiting.

I don't think he needs to jump in a rental car and drive to 65 high schools in a week in order to be effective at recruiting.

He's arguably the most recognizable name in coaching. He'd hire a capable staff to handle to travel, and he'd close kids on in-homes and OVs.

Apparently, he wouldn't be able to recruit. Guys like Trooper Taylor can handle it, but Gruden's not astute enough to figure it out.

Trooper may not be able to really coach a lick, but he's great with recruiting. His recruiting singlehandedly saved Fulmer's butt for 3 years.

Gruden might hurt recruits feelings like volnation. We'd never be able to recover from that kind of negativity.

And the side of the ball that won Gruden his ring, sure wasn't the offense.

I don't even know where to begin with this. I just...I don't believe I have it in me.

Dooley needs relationships. Dan Mullen needs relationships. Gruden doesn't need those relationships, he would be in the door period.

He is one of the most recognizable personalities in football. You may not like Gruden but the recruiting argument is hilarious. You think Kiffin had relationships in the southeast? No. Did he need them? No. He got in the door, Gruden would too but with exponentially more success than Kiffin.

Maybe so, but he's not been in a recruits home in 21 years. We don't have time for him to work off the rust.

I knew it! I was about to ask you eric if you were a member of the "we can do better" crowd
Thanks for running off our HOF coach and getting us into this mess..:hi:
There is one thing that Fulmer and Gruden have in common and that that they both have Championship rings

He's in millions of peoples homes on a weekly basis. I think he's pretty clutch in his ability to communicate.

Besides, what's so freaking complicated about sitting down with a kid and his family and discussing all the great things that the University of Tennessee has to offer?

Looking at the records after they won their championships, how the defenses help hold their teams together, and how they melted down the last season they were here, it does look similar.

So, because he's on MNF as a commentator, that automatically makes him the right guy to coach here, because people see him on TV?? You know as well as I do, that even Kiffin was surprised about how much it took to recruit here.

It was an epic meltdown by Monte's D that got Gruden fired. Remember that?

He got screwed by the refs on the "tuck rule" or he would have taken the Raiders to the Super Bowl.

He won't be sitting down with a kid and his family. Doesn't have the relationships. Won't get in the door.
