Jon Gruden to Miami FL (merged)

i don't think Miami is as desirable of a place to be as a lot of people think.....they aren't going to land a big name.

I wouldn't take it if I'm Mullen......not sure I would take it if I'm a guy like Charlie Strong either.

Why not? Look, Mullen can coach, but at Miss St., he is never going to have a national championship caliber team. At Miami, he definitely can.

It suprises me that a school like Miami with a winning tradition has such sucky fan support. I watched the USF/Cane game and the lower bowl wasn't even half full. That's just pathetic.

It's a small private school. You can't expect them to have the fan support of a huge SEC or Big 10 school. The fact it's located in a real city doesn't help either.

If Gruden becomes the head coach of the U I see him only staying a year or two, he'll be bolting back to the NFL pretty soon.

Sources have told CaneSport that final details are being hammered out and, barring a last minute glitch, Jon Gruden will be the next Miami Hurricanes football coach.

It's expected that his brother Jay will be the team's offensive coordinator.

Details are being finalized tonight and if athletic director Kirby Hocutt and Gruden can work out all details then an announcement could be made as soon as Wednesday.

The hiring of Gruden would energize the fan base - and that was evidenced tonight at the UM-Ole Miss basketball game. With six minutes to go in the first half the student section led a cheer of "We want Gruden!"

You could be right, however, why would he take the Miami job if he's going to leave for an NFL job in a couple of years? He's already an attractive candidate for multiple NFL jobs today. There's no reason to take the Miami job if his heart is in the NFL.

Unless, he is completely serious about learning a different offense and thinks it would be beneficial for him to coach in college.

Deal with Gruden will be finalized Wednesday. They only have to settle length of the deal.

His little brother as the OC? Man Jay fell into a sweet situation. I question how a Arena Football League Coach/Player will do in college football...guess we will see

I saw that its rumored to be Jay Gruden at offensive coordinator and Jim Levitt as defensive coordinator.
