1. memphis is the only team we hung a 100 on
2. several bad losses
3. his team didnt show dramatic improvement this year
4. he only recruits memphis well because he coaches memphis
5. not really proven himself yet
6. his teams play bad defense
Team is a bunch of freshmen you forgot to say that covers your 1,2,6 because they were freshmen 3. they lost in there conference tourney went to the NIT, this year they won conference tourney and went to the NCAA
and played a lot better than UT in the tourney with a bunch of Freshmen.

i guess thats why cal is grabbin up all those kids at kentucky right now

Pastner has to recruit Memphis to be competitive - Cal certainly doesn't.

In fact - I'd prefer any coach wearing orange to able to recruit Memphis well. Pearl wasn't the best at it - but he had a strong midwest base so it equaled out.

i guess i took your post the wrong way. it seemed like when cal was at memphis he picked up preety much any memphis recruit he wanted and now that hes at kentucky he cant snatch up any that he really wants. (ie. Thomas)

it's still Memphis St.and they play in a weak conf. Also that team that played better in the NCAA (still lost btw) got absolutely blown out by UT when they played.

He is all talk and no walk. The kid can sell anything, but can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag... no thanks

Don't really see the point. Calipari has been able to make better teams with a bunch of freshman. Memphis basically had the best class last year if you take out Kanter from Kentucky's
class

Kentucky has the 10th youngest team in the country this year.

Candidate for new coach
Thoughts?
Here is a name that is not mentioned that I would to have. He might leave if the KU job ever came open though. He could recruit and he is well thought of. Jayhawk assistant ' Danny Manning". Throw him some money and hope he takes it.

Cal missed on Thad Young, Elliot, and Leslie McDonald.

Pastner isnt walking away from the team he'll have next season to go anywhere. As for JP not knowing how to coach...... a quick apples/ apples comparison:

JP's 1st 2 seasons in D1: 49-20, 1 NIT, 1 NCAA
Pearl's 1st 2 seasons in D1: 40-21, 1 NCAA

No. Hell no.

Agreed!!!! No and Hell NO AGAIN. Howdy Doody would not be a good fit in Knoxville. All he does is clap his hands everytime something good or bad happens. Kinda reminds me of Fulmer, the way he clapped and patted guys on the arse after they did something wrong.

Besides, when you are playing in the C-USA and you get the kind of talent that Memphis gets year in and year out. Its kinda hard not to have a good record regardless of what kind of coach you are.

CUSA was # 8 rated conf this season. SEC was # 6 or 7. Not much difference

Memphis has beaten 9 of the 12 SEC teams in the last 10 years. The only 3 we havent beaten are the teams we havent played (AUB, FLA, UGA)

no..no..and no...i live in memphis and know the program well because of my career. He does not have a handle on these young kids and it has shown in their on the court performance. The only...ONLY reason he is able to get memphis talent and why Memphis, not calipari or paster, will get the talent is because these kids want to play for the hometown team and be the hero's. they are always considered second tier level to SEC players and teams..they have a chip on their shoulders and want to prove a point. The only reason he was able to secure a top 5 recruiting class was because of what calipari had already put in place. lets these now sophomores have another season like this past year and they will be calling for his head again like they were this year before the stunning cusa conference game...which they only won on a last second shot..if they would of lost that game pastner's name would be on headlines about who will replace him...not who wants to steal him away.

It's funny how that happens when you make your conference's worst teams play the worst basketball teams in the country.

And has a CUSA team won a postseason game this year?

Don't think that idea is going to catch on. Keep copy and pasting though.

UMW 30-26
MSU 71-6 (Well technically 33-6)

I've watched alot of tape on Adonis Thomas and I will give you that one. That kid is not a 2nd tier guy. He should be a great player. But you can't possibly compare the SEC and C-USA right now. Pastner is a likeable and personable guy. But he is def. not someone I would like in Knoxville to motivate kids to play at a High Level.
