Josiah-Jordan James returning to Tennessee

I wouldn't have been upset if JJJ had moved on, but I'm certainly not upset that he's coming back for free. I do hope his role is diminished. He can stay healthier that way and the future roster gets more playing time/experience.

This honestly makes me wonder though, if Rick isn't going all in with this team, plays the veterans heavy minutes and feels this is his shot before he retires.

I’m guessing 15-20 unless he’s completely healthy and playing like he did through the SEC tournament championship m2 seasons back. We should all hope he’s earning 35-30 minutes because the best of JJJ is probably better than any of our transfers - he just hasn’t been able to stay healthy enough to play at that level consistently. JMO

That’s the theme with JJJ
“He just hasn’t been able to stay healthy”

“He just hasn’t been playing to his potential” - my dad

he just hasn’t this or that should be his motto

Another year of watching him having a good game then disappear for 2 weeks.

A lot of fans were saying this ^ a couple months ago. Now, they'll act we are getting Michael Jordan for a year. Short memory
The difference in him returning as a walk-on and as a scholarship player is enormous. You can't ignore that distinction when having this revised discussion.

Agreed, plus I think this year we can afford to play JJJ during certain matchups and only if he is 100% healthy and then have Ledlum or Mashack or Estrella or Jefferson play in his place if he isn't producing offensively. I think we just have a lot more experienced bodies this year than we did last year.

JJJ willing to come here as a walk on should tell you all you need to know about his mindset, he knows his knee is an issue and he won’t be demanding minutes. He wants to provide a role on a roster he really likes the makeup of.
I'm assuming his role will be playing certain matchups? Because I am really excited about this roster with the current setup. We are really deep and have insurance policies in case of injuries or any 3 of our transfers end up not producing like expected.

Worst take so far might be that JJJ will be taking somebody’s minutes. Nope. If he has minutes he beat out somebody else that wasn’t good enough yet to earn them.

Exactly. The best players will play.

The increased minute competition is GOOD. It further motivates everyone to work hard and perform. Playing time is not a given.

Ughhhhh whyyyy
gonna take minutes from Ledlum and Knecht smh
Not really, we were razer thin at PF. There's no way to know if Knecht could play PF in the SEC, as he doesn't really have the frame of most PFs in this conference. Now Ledlum and JJJ can take all the PF minutes, which leaves Knecht and Mashack to take all of the SF minutes.

Vescovi is the only one even close to being consistently excellent enough to possibly meet your criteria yet he still has folks trashing him on this forum

I like vescovi strictly as a wing…he has no business directing traffic at the top of the key..Barnes needs to concentrate on getting him more touches so he can get hot…we lack a consistent 3 ball due to never taking many 3’s early in the game and then when we get behind we just start throwing them up as desperation.

Here's the deal, Josiah is the prefect 6th man for us. He can play the 3 or the 4, he can run the point as well, he's a great defender, can get hot from 3, he's a good rebounder. The best part is we don't have to really rely on him to play big minutes. I felt we were already stacked before, and now we are just that much deeper.
