Juneteenth

And I think opposing anything resembling an association with them is a bad strategy, if you're trying to win the war of ideas or find a common ground.

Well, as I've said, I hope I'm wrong. LouderVol made a good point about the likelihood of the messaging being hijacked by the marxists, but I tend towards not underestimating the power of the cultural elite to be able to manipulate the opinions of the masses.

I think the best strategy is to treat whatever the opposition throws at you on its face and defeat the idea, rather than what you think is the motive for the idea. These grand fears about aristocratic Marxists controlling everything sound crazy to everybody else and don't help your cause. Juneteenth is a good thing. Ascribing bad motives to some of the people pushing for what should be universally accepted as a good thing seems really ****ing useless, even counterproductive.

I totally support Juneteenth as a holiday. We should celebrate the end of slavery here and demand it end throughout the world, including sex slavery and trafficking, which our current administration must obviously ignore for some reason....

How would you like the demand to be packaged? Like you just want Biden to publicly call for the end of sex slavery?

What makes you say they are ignoring it? Have they diverted funds away from existing programs for combatting sex trafficking, or something?

I never said they control everything. But they control the large majority of universities, tech, and mainstream media. Should we only start to be concerned once they DO control everything?

Nobody said don't be concerned. I barely even know what you're talking about because I don't understand how this holiday has anything to do with control. All I'm saying is poopooing Juneteenth is the wrong battle to fight for your cause.

I've already admitted that you may be right about that. Although, LouderVol was the one who did the bulk of the convincing.

I can see a path for the messaging to become hijacked (or "controlled" if you will). After all, it is an annual reminder that some white people did a horrible thing generations ago. It is a hell of a scab that can be picked if you are in the mood to gin up some white guilt.

How different would both sides of this conversation be if Trump and a Republican congress were passing this? The liberals wouldn't even be in here and none of the people on the right would be calling it "pandering".
How many Lincoln comparisons would there be?

The stock market doesn't plan to close and tomorrow is quadruple witching. Forcing a close would be a mess. Banks are scrambling to see if they will close as is the fed reserve.
