Just heard from my source

10-2 in the ACC with a loaded roster and the most fertile recruiting ground in the nation isn't that great. I'd take Strong over Fisher.
According to my source, these are the same apprehensions that the boosters have regarding Fisher.

I'm not typically a negative poster but I just can't be positive about any candidate right now. We were told by several 'insiders' Gruden was a done deal. Like him or not, Gruden would've changed the entire culture at UT. Recruits would have loved us, the rest of the country would have respected us, and the fanbase could've told everybody who doubted us to f'ck off. Instead, we were made to look like idiots by Gruden's agent, the rest of the country is making fun of us (look around the internet ... we're the laughing stock of college football), and recruits are dropping like flies. I don't care if it was a pissing match between the AD and boosters. The truth is, NOBODY on this board knows. Nobody. Everybody I thought had inside information came up short. The people that predicted Gruden wasn't coming were wrong about most events. Even if it went down exactly like the 'insiders' say, the best case scenario is our AD is an incompetent idiot. It never should have gone on that long. He has done this fine university a huge disservice.

And I don't see ANY of the other available candidates that can stop that bleeding.

Yep, today I'm a negative poster. My apologies.

The goal is to have a coach next week but there have apparently been some setbacks in this search, so they probably won't be able to get everything ironed out until the week after next. I was told that Fisher and Strong preparing for games this week also led to some delays.

Nahh. Strong was interviewed lastnight. Will be done this week.

Just got off the phone with my source and heard some interesting stuff. I can't name names but this is a trusted source with multiple connections to UT. Anyway, our four main candidates at the moment are Fisher, Strong, Golden, and Dabo Swinney. Fisher and Strong are both likely to interview at some point next week, although specific details are being kept tight lipped. Apparently, the boosters would rather have Strong but Hart is leaning towards Fisher. Golden is also likely to interview with Dave in the near future, but we are still waiting to hear back from Swinney's agent. Dabo is more of a wildcard candidate in case the other guys all turn us down, but apparently he and Hart know each other. Besides these four, the only other person being considered is Dana Holgorsen but he is a real longshot at this point.

One other interesting thing I was told...despite what some other people have said, there really is no friction between Hart and the boosters regarding the Gruden situation. Both parties agreed that Gruden's terms would be pretty much impossible to meet, so they all agreed to move on and look at other candidates. The one thing that might cause some friciton at this point is if Hart decides to go with Fisher, when most of the boosters want Charlie Strong.

The boosters and Hart stuff you mention is exactly what my uncle told me. They are on the same page.

Do you think Strong is a better coach than Petrino?

Not necessarily. He would definitely recruit better, though. The Petrino baggage would hurt in that department, more than people are willing to admit.

I just called my source back to follow up on whether or not Strong has already been interviewed. He said he actually doesn't know for sure but that he does know that Hart is supposed to meet with him on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Apparently, Strong also has an offer on the table from Arkansas as well.

Your sources are WRONG...Very wrong...So wrong it's almost hilarious...Fisher is NOT leaving FSU....Golden is NOT leaving Miami...Swinney is NOT leaving Clemson...Not sure where your sources got their info but they are very very wrong...Strong is still in play but highly unlikely he lands here...Try again later and this time think of something more original and more on line with what is ACTUALLY happening....Cheers :salute:

Why is Strong unlikely?

As much as I'm tired of seeing "my sources", I'm more tired of people on here being called a "troll" due to their lack of posts. Some of us have been here forever, but have only read boards for insight. Choosing not to contribute to the idiocy does not constitute a troll. Don't like it? Oh well...your mama's a troll!

God I would hate to see the "real" list, then.

WHAT?!?!?! He still has to recruit against FL and Miami in state as well as every other university trying to get FL kids. They lost one conference game (though it was NC State by 1 point) and then to FL, so its not like that was a bad year. Remind me again who Gruden has beaten recently? Listen, I wanted him as much as anyone, but let's move on and find another option. If it's Fisher, Strong, Bobby P., Golden, etc. let's put some positive energy behind this and support our Vols.

Never said that these coaches would actually take the UT job, just that they are Hart's top choices at this moment. Now this list is obviously not set in stone and can change if these guys start turning us down. I will keep in touch with my source and make sure all my friends here at VN are made aware of any breaking developments.

WTF Hart, why not Patterson or Peterson????? He better not Dooley this hiring but from the looks of it he will.
Fisher is the most overrated pos we could get, talk about someone whos done less with more, we couldn't get a bigger waster of talent than him and he ain't gonna have all the florida talent to do it with here.

Just curious... What makes your source better?

Like anywhere else... The more someone talks about what they know, the more other people doubt them.

According to my source, Peterson and Patterson were the first two people that Hart reached out to. However, both declined any interest in the job. Not including Gruden, Peterson was our #1 guy, as there was some concern that Patterson's offense wouldn't translate that well into the SEC.
