Just So Everyone Knows, Gruden is a .500 head coach.

All this talk about how great he is...well, his record isn't much better than Derek Dooley's.

Just FYI

His pro record was .540.

He could be a potential disaster that we would be stuck with for years and years.
Don't be a moron. What was Saban's record in the NFL? How about Spurrier? Mora Jr.? Pete Carroll?
You obviously have no clue what you are talking about.

You say that cause when Phil took over at TN you still had momma's milk on your chin. He was a very sought after coach at the time. I dont know if he would have been any good in the NFL and you dont either.

Oh, yeah I do know. I was old enough to remember 1992. Fulmer always had difficulties adjusting a gameplan. That is something that has to happen in the NFL.

There are quite a few sucky teams in the NFL.

He might be great. But he has NEVER built up a college program. So there's no guarantees.

Hey, it's that guy who thought his team was gonna play for the national championship this year, but got slapped around instead. Even almost losing to lowly Tennessee.

What a disappointment this season must have been for you.

Don't worry, Spurrier will be gone soon. He always bugs out when he sees that he's peaked wherever he's at. Then you can go back to being what you've been for 99 percent of your life, a loser.

True.

lol

I agree that there are much better choices out there. I've got nothing against him. If he's hired, I'll support him just like I supported Battle, Johnny, Fulmer, Kiffin and Dooley. I'm a real fan, unlike all the negas of our last three years, who went around hoping we'd lose.

Most of the goobers on this thread who are acting like he's gonna come in here and take us straight to the top are the same folks who will be calling for his head by December 2013.

I love how you pick and choose which posts to respond to and ignore. Lol.

Just an FYI:

Nick Saban- .469
Steve Spurrier- .375
Bobby Petrino- .231
Butch Davis- .414
Pete Carroll- .489

But you don't care about any of that because you're a Dooley homer.

edit: MGU beat me on a few of these.

To be fair, Other than Carroll those were all proven college coaches coming back to college. Thats more a list for people proving college coaches don't work in the pros.

Comparing win percentage pro vs. college is ignorant really. In college great coaches go undefeated. In the nfl great coaches lose 4-6 games year in and year out.

You're one of the posters here that rode the Dooley train long after it ran off the tracks. Sorry if I think your football knowledge is lacking and don't take you serious.

I never tire of reminding people who think this way of just how retarded it is to think this way.

Wow... I am constantly surprised by the idiocy I find on volnation.

A good college coach wins almost all of his games because you have many built in wins and by recruiting you can make your team leagues better than your opposition. In the NFL the level of parity does not allow for good coaches to win them all. A .540 plus record in the pros is a fantastic record. It would have been even better if his terrible owner hadn't set him up to lose.

95-81 NFL Record

1 Super Bowl ring

5-4 NFL Postseason Record (100-85 overall record in the NFL)

Worked and studied under some great NFL and college football minds (our own Johnny Majors included)

He's a football junkie---besides just studying trends--he KNOWS the game. You don't think that Gruden's QB Camp and being on MNF won't help him out with the kids?

The guy knows more about X's and O's than Dooley would ever hope to know.

Enjoy the ride, Negavol....:loco:

Death unto you! Off with his head! Blasphemy!

Look...just playing devils advocate and have some questions myself. I have no doubt that he should be able to recruit. I don't know much about him, Morris, or any of the other coaches suggested that he might be bringing if he came but looking at them and what they have accomplished isn't anything that shouts home run to me. Don't get me wrong, I am all for Gruden getting the job in hopes that he can turn this around. I understand that NFL and college are completely different but it's not necessarily a given that he would be outstanding in college. The argument has been made that the superbowl he won was with Dungy's team and he was shortly fired afterwards. Morris was fired as well. I'm all about hoping he turns out well but I am less convinced that he would come in and be the home run we so desperately need. Can someone convince me?

Just wondering... is there anyway you could tell me which team he faced in that Super Bowl? Just spit balling, I think it was his old team. The same team that, if not for the infamous "Tuck Rule," would've had back to back Super Bowl appearances.

Further, on a different level, I don't buy the whole "he didn't win with his players" argument, regardless. The NFL is not like college. You truly never have "your" players because you don't go out and recruit. It's the GM, President, and Owner who make the decisions with input from the coaches. NFL is all about coaching, as opposed to recruiting. Perfect example, Jim Harbaugh. No one is saying "Well he won with Mike Singletary's players."

Gruden is an excellent coach with name recognition. In the NFL so many things are out of your control. If you are not the GM, then players are drafted and signed that don't meet the needs of the team. Also, when a franchise has a lot of money in a player, then the coach is expected to play that player. Make no mistake, Gruden would shake up the SEC pretty quickly.

And Saban's was under. 500. Dude he coached at Oakland and won a SB at Tampa. TB is not exactly the largest market and easiest place to win games. If a guy can be a .540% coach at Oak and TB then that is pretty amazing. Not to mention didnt he win the SB with Trent F'N Dilfer as his QB? Pretty damn amazing and not many coach's could do that.
