Keep Pearl around!

The funny thing about this post isn't that you're a sexist, or whatever else people are saying about you. It's that you are too dumb to realize that I was being sarcastic.
I wanted people to realize that it is ridiculous to even suggest that Pearl be fired. Almost as ridiculous as it would be to talk about Pat getting the ax.
Look alive bud!!
I was well aware it was a pathetic attempt at sarcasm. I simply was pointing out that the Basketball Forum is a better place without any mention of the women's game, regardless of the purpose.

I just can't believe this. Why would anyone want to coach here? We have no loyalty to our coaches. We can't appreciate anything short of a championship, and we can't accept the fact that only one team of what is it 119 schools ends up champion? I'm so proud of UT Basketball just because it is mentioned in the top 20 at the beginning of seasons, and because it gets at large bids. I mean, we were one of 3 SEC teams to get in this year. One of 3. And the team we tied with didn't even make the tourney. We played some tough teams on some tough floors, and we took some beatings, but we also won some close ones, and lost some close ones. It happens. If you guys think Bruce Pearl is so terrible, then you go and do what he's done in the past 4 years, with the heart and enthusiasm he's done it with. Get off the mans back. I'm proud of our team. We lost a lot of leadership in Chris and Jajuan, but we still managed to win 20 games for the 4th year in a row. Congrats guys.

That's right on man, CBP has been on PTI more than Green, Buzz, O'Neill, any of those guys.

Have the moral victory arguments shifted to Bruce now that Phil is gone?

He cursed out the band at band camp?

Ergh, bad choice of word order on my part. Long story short, he said it's nice to be around a bunch of young men and women that work well together and don't suck. Pepper in some occasiona foul language and comments about the idiots on his team and you've about got it.

Yes, because if there's any profession in America that has demonstrated exemplary standards of loyalty themselves, it's coaches.

As to why anyone would want to coach here -- well, we pay very, very well. Just ask Pearl, who seems driven to point out every time he's on TV that he's rich now.

I can't blame coaches. You come to a Tennessee program where you THINK they would appreciate doing better than they have been, winning 20 games a season, and making it to the NCAA tournament, and winning the SEC, and making it to the Sweet 16 twice, and yet, all they do is complain. Why wouldn't you leave? Yeah, we pay good, but it's not worth all the junk we give them. They could make good money at a small school that actually APPRECIATES their talent and winning, not one like us that is spoiled rotten and expects perfection. I mean, I am on the boat that we should be working hard and doing all that we can, but I'm also understanding that we ain't the only team in the country recruiting good players, with good coaches, and who works hard. We're going to lose. But you know what? At least we now have sell out crowds at TBA to watch the MEN for once. At least I can turn on the tv and watch the Vols because they're playing a big name team on prime time ESPN. At least I can put them down on my bracket because they at least made it TO the tournament. We had a young, inexperienced team, our veterans were new at being the leaders, and they stepped up as best they could. It's over, Pearl is not going anywhere. If Hamilton fired Pearl right now, and Kiffin didn't work out, his head would roll. Get behind your coaches if you want them to stay here.

I'm waiting for the CBP doughnut jokes. This is crazy. I was upset after the SEC Championship game cause UT didn't look like they wanted to be there. I saw a good team that couldn't get their shots to drop today. It happens. If you want rid of CBP, I guess we'll need to replace CPS too. The girls didn't look that good this year. While we're at it, can anybody name ONE thing that stupid dog, Smokey, has done? He just sits and eats and barks when a camera is in his face! So, we need a new mascot cause the one we got is useless. And what's with the color orange? It doesn't go with anything, so they paired it with white!?!?! Way to go genius! We need new coaches all around, a new mascot, and new team colors.....Give me a break.

I saw a team with a massive inside height advantage that chose to heave up 33 three-point shots instead of exploiting that advantage. I like Pearl, and I want him to succeed, but there's no getting around the fact that UT had a miserable gameplan today. When you have an advantage like that inside, but then you have your center attempt twice as many threes as two-point shots, then the coach is the one who blew it.

Yes, he needs to go to a place like Duke or UNC, where they are NOTHING like you described us.

Duke and UNC have the tradition that we don't. They get players lined up to play there from the day they were born. Nobody grows up saying "I want to play basketball for Tennessee." Coach K and Roy Williams are great coaches, and they will be there for a while, but they would not have half the players they did if it wasn't for the fact that the tradition at those schools are those that make kids know that they will be a contender every year. We don't have that tradition. We're in the process of buildling that. We just got our first All American, and we've made the tourney for the past 4 years. We're just now maintaining consistency at the top of the SEC when UNC and Duke stay at the top of the ACC year after year. We're not in the same league as them yet. But we could be.

One poor season does not a bad coach make. He was up front at the beginning of the season that his expectations for this year were lower than his previous teams, so why all the naysayers? I supposed we should also be dissing Summitt as well for her lowest NCAA seed ever.

Give Pearl a few more years. This quick turnaround coaching world is pathetic.

Is Pearl's job really in question? I'd have to say no...

There are always going to be people who want $1,000,001 right after you give them $1,000,000...but I think Pearl will have to have at least one more year like this and probably more like 2 or 3 before his job is in any kind of jeopardy...

I think alot of people have gotten spoiled by the recent success and have forgotten how bad it was for so long...to call for Pearl's job after one sub-par year(by our new standards) is just ludicrous

You guys are mostly arguing against a straw man. Who on here is out and out calling for the man's job? You guys act like criticizing him is the same thing as having the moving vans show up at his house.

I'm looking at it this way: Pearl's first three teams played beyond their potential, won many close games, and basically played their guts out. So if we give Pearl some credit for that, we have to assign him some blame for this year's underachieving team. Once again, it may all come back to alley cats vs. fat cats.

Pearl deserves criticism. He and the players want a final four appearance a lot more than us.

What team doesn't want a final four appearance? Name me one team that doesn't. But lets face it, we were starting a young team that played a tough schedule, and we played teams that were more experienced than we are, and that had more size, and that knew what it took to win, and we just hadn't experienced that, and we hadn't learned. We had some toughness issues, defense issues, shot selection issues, and that's natural with youth. But they'll learn, and they'll get better. I've enjoyed watching Tennessee basketball the past 4 years. I'm looking forward to the future.

I dont think that bruce's job is in jeporady very much. i think that we should definetly keep him. one year that we didnt play very good. keep in mind that he couldnt recruit all that he needed because smith and crews got kicked off of the team. he was planning on having them and we just had a bad start and an incredibly hard schedule. so, i think we could come out and be a big contender next year. esp. if tyler and chism stay. GO VOLS!!!

Summitt is one of the more underrated female basketball coaches in the country, IMO.

...forgotten more basketball than most of us on this board know! She is an outstanding coach at every aspect of the game. She has the respect of all the great coaches in the mens game, now and for the last 10 years. Go Vols! Go Lady Vols!

There are several guys with Final Fours on their resumes that couldn't care less if the women's game was eliminated tomorrow.

Exactly. People are acting like everyone is running him out of town. Sure some probably are serious but mostly people are just pointing out obvious flaws. And please quit with the "At least it's not Buzz" bullcrap....if that's the extent of your argument skills then go crawl back under your rock. If being better than the previous coaches is your only criteria of being successful than Pearl is set for life. I would hope we'd expect more than Houston, O'Neil, Green, and Peterson.
