Keep Pearl around!

There's a difference between questioning him and wanting him run out of town.
I'm indifferent on the subject. If he stays, he stays. If he goes, I won't give it a second thought. Snake oil salesmen are a dime a dozen in the coaching profession these days. Just call the Pump brothers or Sonny Vaccaro and they'll deliver the next Bruce Pearl to your campus, for a fee of course.

If you are so indifferent then why do you whine like a child about Pearl on a daily basis?

I'm not saying forever, but I don't see why it shouldn't be for the near future.

Who says he is John Wooden? I just think Tennessee Basketball has been pretty irrelevant in my lifetime and I'm happy with what our program has accomplished under Pearl.

I'm happy with what we've accomplished, but I'm quite a bit less optimistic about the future than I was a couple of years ago after we blew the Ohio State game. We still can't play defense consistently. We still don't have any more reliable offense than just throwing up threes and hoping we hit. And if Pearl hasn't been able to even sort of fix either of those problems with two more years under his belt, can we ever reasonably expect that he will?

No way I think the guy should be fired or anything, but two years ago I thought the future of Tennessee basketball was pretty much limitless. Now I've about decided that this is pretty much what we're going to get. Not that it's not pretty outstanding in the context of Tennessee basketball, but it's a little underwhelming compared to where we seemed to be headed a couple years back.

It doesn't sound like you are indifferent when you use terms like "snake oil salesmen".

Can your forward the Pump Brothers number to me? Mitch Barnhart needs it about now. :)

You should look at the careers of say.... John Calipari, or Rick Pitino to see how a coach can change their style.

That's kind of the point; yet we're seeing way too many people responding to valid criticisms with the stale "At least he's not Buzz/Jerry/Wade" or then jumping to "Anyone who wants him gone is an idiot".

Valid points and a fair assessment. I think many of us were disappointed this season -- for the first time in the Pearl era.

Pearl is what he is. You can go grab another flashy slickster who can mesmerize the peons with body paint and Pat Summit arse kissing and nobody would notice the difference.

I looked at our roster and schedule before the season started and I thought we did well for what we had to do to get to where we did. I also know that Pearl's teams so far have been the poster child for inconsistency, so that adds to the issues. Pearl needs to have some tutoring on player accountability and running a half court game as well.

Not sure if I would be indifferent on him staying or leaving for whatever reason. Our track record for hiring coaches ain't what you call stellar.

I don't understand why we are even having the discussion of coaching changes? This is absurd to me. I don't blame this season on Pearl at all, my blame lies with the TEAM as a whole. Very little DESIRE to want to win IMO.

Coach Pearl is going to be successful whereever he goes....I hope he stays and coaches at UT for a long time!

I don't think his 'flash' off the court has anything to do with his qualifications as a coach.

Neither do I, but a large portion of our fan base apparently thinks part of the job description of the men's basketball coach is to be a jester.

I do have one problem with Pearl though. I think he is a poor disciplinarian. Even then though its hard to be hard on Pearl this year because there has been so much talk about Chism and T. Smith going to the PRO's....You can't help but think that some of that talk got into their heads....and caused them to play outside their comfort zone.

Basing everything strictly on the results Pearl has accomplished - putting aside his coaching flaws for a second - I don't see how this discussion can even be happening.

3/4 divison titles with Florida and Kentucky in your division says quite a bit.

advancing your team to the furthest it has ever been in UT history in half your coaching years.

4 straight tournament appearances - longest streak in the conference.

4 20 seasons, including a 30 win season.

His results speak for themselves. Obviously he has coaching flaws, I don't think anyone is denying that, but right now you can't argue with where this program is heading.

Given that next year's team will be pretty much be the same - save for maybe Tyler leaving and getting D West -Pearl's coaching is going to be the center of attention. We'll see if he can use the off season to adjust his style to these players. He knows exactly what he's got on the floor, now it's a matter of if he can adjust.

If we have a similar or worse season next year, then I may begin to question Pearl a little more, but until then I'm still going to say he's done wonders for this program and it should continue.

I think Prince should be benched every time he salutes the crowd. Its gotten ridiculous.

Part of the job is to put the Tennessee name out there. It was a good marketing move and it helps with recruiting. When did he take off his shirt? His second year? He hasn't really done anything quite like that these past two years. Again, I believe when a program is down like that as it was when Pearl took over, you have to find some ways to revive it. That was one of Pearl's ways.

Prince was the only one who didn't look like he cared in the postgame interviews

When Tyler hit made that layup with a foul to eventually put us up one, they showed the Tennessee bench. Everyone looked excited except for JP. Just shows his character.
