Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

When it’s phrased that way it seems Holly left the program in better shape than some want to admit. Her true evaluation of the company she’s in starts when her players Darby, Striplin, Sara and Justine are on the draft clock. She gets credit for the draft picks, so Holly should get credit for getting them here.

Holly got the wonderful benefit of Summit's legacy for recruiting to which she rode almost into making the program a boittom feeder of the SEC. Don't make it seem like she was strong in this are of coaching, she wasn't, Pat's legacy was still bringing them in, don't get it twisted.

You know that is not the relevant issue.

Players have always played a role in recruiting. But when you say, "well player are recruiting players" in response to the fact that Rickea is a Kellie recruit, you make it seem as though the Head coach was incidental to Rickea's decision.
She may have been incidental. We don’t know. Perhaps Jordy recruited Rickea, perhaps tradition or NIL lure. Kellie is likable enough but she doesn’t strike me as a coach high school players are talking about and cutting line to join the program. KJH is average at best and coaching this legendary program because of association only.

Holly wasn’t coaching elsewhere…who do you think was one staff helping secure/recruiting those players. And let’s not forget Pat was as shell of herself in her final two years.

The mindset to give Holly accolades for preparing our players for the WNBA seems a bit of a reach…. JMO

Good lord...

All of you Holly lovers need to get a grip on reality. Westbrook played for Holly for two years and obviously she wasn’t too excited about the coaching she was getting! And said so … Do you remember Diamond being forced to the bench while Holly was teaching her you could see the admiration that Diamond had for her !

Mercedes came in as the number 1 recruit and left the same way she came in !
Nared was a little better from when she came in and I will agree somebody helped Izzy!

The mindset to give Holly accolades for preparing our players for the WNBA seems a bit of a reach…. JMO

The thing that nobody wants to talk about is Holly’s recruits were free to leave when Kellie was hired ! Westbrook was leaving before Kellie got on campus and so was MiMi…. Kellie re-recruited Rennia who could have went to any team she wanted but stayed and improved. Rae was our local bull in a China shop but she also got better ! Jordy came in ranked #2 and could have went anywhere she wanted…. Took visits with Cooke (South Carolina) and Jackson (Miss State) and could have went and played with her friends but Kellie convinced her to stay ! All three of the last three years (pros) coming out of UT were improved by the coaching they received under Kellie ! You can say :Holly this… and Holly that … I’ve watched the years and players under the Holly years and I spent those years yelling at the TV and listening to her whistle and throwing her hands in the air saying I don’t know! And thankfully Kellie has put a team I enjoy watching on the floor! My wife doesn’t have to make up excuses to go shopping and the dog can come out from under the bed and watch the game with me in peace ! 😁
That’s good on your wife, sporting events a great dates. In regards to Evina, it’s always brought up that she was unhappy, went public for change. She came in a Top 5 player and went after the coach…goes to UConn and sits out a year, comes back and pretty much the same player. By the end of her career she’s coming off the bench and goes in the second round. Maybe it’s an Evina thing looking back.

There's really not much correlation between player development and a player's likelihood of WNBA success. You can have a player like Gustaffson or Czinano who were excellent college players (Gustaffson was NPOY) and had very limited WNBA prospects because their game didn't translate to the next level. Conversely, you can have a player who didn't really show out much in college, but gets picked early in the draft becaues of potential (Soares).
That’s the point I’m making, it’s more about the talent.

No, you give credit where it's due. Warlick and her staff were not good coaches--but they could recruit. Everybody has to be recruited--nobody just comes beating on the door. The program certainly had various problems and was not in good shape, but they did recruit well--especially compared to the current staff, whose recruiting has been, let's be candid, awful and only salvaged by pulling Jackson out of the portal.

Fair point and the tooth fairy might have convinced Justine, cause we don't know and Tinkerbell might have recruited Hollingshead cause don't know and heck, Destiny Wells might be here because of the Easter bunny cause again we don't know. It does seem that one thing "we" do know is the the uh, head coach of the team could not have played a role because she does not strike you as that kind of coach. Her actual signings pale in comparison to your feeling that she had to be incidental. So it is all settled. Thanks.

We do have a kid in middle school, so the Easter Bunny, Tinkerbell and the Tooth Fairy might of played a role in helping Kellie.

Ok you have a point. Kellie recruited ALL those AA you listed, lol. You and Kellie win. Question is when will Tennessee win and when will high school top recruits sign with us. Maybe the recruits should ask Tinkerbell and the Easter bunny for advice?. Oh you need to know the tooth fairy only works between he midnight and 6am while recruits are asleep, so that won’t work. Madtown, Madhatter? I wonder. All good and all in fun before you get “mad”

Everyone should really look at USC or Uconn when looking at freshman minutes. But no offense this mean Justine wasn’t bought in. Of all the sweet sixteen teams how many freshman played a significant role? USC has hordes of young talent and didn’t see the freshman really touch the floor at all. It’s about buy into culture. Maybe she will change her mind and come back? I’m sure Kellie would allow her. I don’t see bigger or better options for her.
