Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

Harper said after the game that our players are too "nice" on the court, weren't ready for physical play, and lacked awareness
on defense---knowing which Indiana players could shoot the three and needed to be guarded more tightly. All of which adds up to a coach
and a staff who are not demanding enough.

Classic, throwing the players under the bus....

Remember those few earlier games where Tess showed emotion/aggression and was placed on the bench?

That’s her opinion.
Everyone needs to be held accountable including the coaches.

"There is an old adage in coaching that is very true..."Teams take on the personality of their coach"
This should be an easy "see" for Coach Kellie...(( "If what I am seeing in this team reflects me, then I am being too nice, too..."
But it would take an Alpha to have the nerve to teach the teacher

Aren't you one of the crew who's been defending Harper for weeks/months and calling out the "negas"? Yea, you are.

still do
that doesn't change who I am and how I post
I post as a coach, not a fan, persay
I will be tough on Kellie
bc coaching is what I know,
and right now, she has got to up her visibility

quit asking,,,start demanding and expecting.
Not saying "I need you guys to,,,,"...but..."I expect you guys to_____!"

Moore is not going to leave NC State and I doubt Kellie will get fired mid season. The longer this goes on the less likely any quality coach will come to Tennessee.
Well if a great opportunity for someone they will come.... of course we need to not insist that candidate be a female and from the Pat Summit tree

Something else that's concerning is lack of recruiting. ESPN just published top 25 recruiting classes for 2024. Guess where TN was? NOT ON THE LIST!!!

Who would want to come to play for her?

What I'm about to say may be blasphemous, but Pat never really had to develop players. She had her pick of the top recruits every year. So I don't think Kellie had to see much development of teammates during her time as a player at UT...

Not demanding enough? How about clueless? They had almost a week to watch tape of Indiana and figure out what offense and defense to run. There are no excuses and she sounds like she's shifting the blame.

LMAO at 'too nice'... did Pat ever look 'too nice' during a game? LOL

I hate to disappoint you folks, but unless the wheels fall off the wagon this season, there's not going to be a coaching change. Kellie and her staff are not only good coaches, but good people, and I know that's very important to our AD.

The recruiting landscape has changed over the years and UT is behind the the top teams in NIL money for women's basketball. Coach Sam is an excellent recruiter and has some top 10 HS talent committed, but the days of loading up on 5-star HS talent are over. Recruiting in the portal is much more impactful now, but again we struggle to compete with the teams with lots of NIL money.

Pat would have been able to get the money in her time, but Dave Hart dismantled the donor organization that raised big money for the Lady Vols during the Summitt era. We've got to figure out a way to get those type of donors to contribute to the NIL, or we'll never get back to where we were in Pat's heyday.
Those days aren’t over for a number of programs. Why are we on the outside looking in, STILL.

Holy Moly our problems are not the result of being behind other schools in NIL opportunity...... we are where we are because we cannot get players to play together and get coaches to coach them effectively many have pointed out on this forum that we DO have talented athletes got to get them to coalesce and be a dynamic team

Thank you. It is coaching. The girls have talent but she can’t coach. She’s not listening to assistants and her husband being on staff doesn’t help that chemistry tbh. Strength and conditioning coach/program I also wanna take a look at.

She doesn't need to up her visibility, she needs to resign or be fired. End of story

When Kellie was first hired and after the first couple games, I remember some posters were saying her courtside demeanor reminded them so very much of Pat.
I disagree. Her courtside demeanor (especially when we are losing or playing poorly) reminds me of another coach we had-HW.

At least Holly could recruit.

Kellie is just useless. Can’t believe we hired a coach that had .58 career win percentage before getting here.

Number of top 100 recruits under Holly
- I lost count after 17

Number of top 100 recruits under Kellie
- 5, two have left so 3.
- The other 3:
- Striplin has averaged 4ppg in her career, to go with 2.9rpg
- Puckett has averaged 6.2 and 3.3rpg
- There’s no need to post Wynn’s stats lol

Take the locker room away. If she’s going to make recruits wait to put on the uniform until they commit, honor the players that fought for the banners hanging.
