Kellie Harper discussion/debate thread [merged]

Did you get bored with football
vrrrroom,,,,honk....bang bang
Been following LVs basketball school since Pat started coaching and watched her when she played up the road from me at UTM.... Attended my first UT football game in 1958...

You own the board or something? You sure ride the fence like a countryside Mockingbird

Yeah I can't think of anyone specific either. That's the thing about the firing, there has to be a pretty quick hiring . I totally agree with your hiring guidelines, I just don't see who that would be right now.

I was very underwhelmed by the Josh Heupel hire, but I was wrong. As I've said before, I'm very intrigued to see who his Heupel for women's basketball would be without the ridiculous constraints of the last two hires...

No, I'm a renter… But I only have one address.. not two ...I don't live in the football complex, too

It was apparent last season that this program was skating on thin ice with CKH’s poor recruiting. Horston and Jackson carried this team. Many chose not to see it or failed to see it. This season hinged on Jackson staying healthy and being awesome because the roster is just very mediocre aside from her.

Barring an unexpected turnaround and a deep run in the postseason, this should be CKH’s final season in Knoxville. We will never be elite under he leadership.
Does KH make in home visits of recruits? I have never heard or read how the visit went?

Alot of fans on here. Danny will not fire her midseason. You all know better than this( or I would think you would know better). Some of your head coaching replacement suggestions leave much to be desired. We must move on from the Pat tree. Pat is not walking through the door and there was only one Pat. But times have changed. And alot. Nothing is the same when any of these former players played. Not one thing. So it is going to take someone who can navigate the portal and NIL.
well said

-As a Huntsvilliain, (that's Alabama , yup, right) I was at the game last night. I mainly post on the Football things, but I did end up going to the Von Braun Civic Center last night and saw UT vs. MTSU. Could have been the venue - not blaming anyone, so don't get me wrong here. Granted we are in ALABAMA, which is (or can be) a nightmare for any Tennessee fan.

3 things.
1) I grew up here wearing orange all through the 60's, 70's and onwards until my days as a student from '75-79 (Ernie/Bernie years). I really liked walking from my office downtown to the VBCC to watch the VOLS (Y'all can't fathom how much gas and driving I do to watch the VOLS, over the years, I still live here). YES it was great to see them play in Huntsville, and I hope that happens more. (BTW, Auburn women play on the same court next week). Never thought I'd see orange playing in this city. Probably won't happen again.

2) The MTSU team seemed to hustle more, and their fan base was loud, proud and vocal. They had a band and cheerleaders, and dance team and on and on. UT had nothing like that. Maybe this venue was better for MTSU than Knoxville, but it seemed like a home game for MTSU, and they "BROUGHT IT".

3) I like Kellie Harper, but what I saw last night was a LONG way from a Pat Summit team. I had a free ticket and not really following UT Lady Vols basketball, I thought this would be a slam dunk victory for the VOLS last night. I was wrong. That number 2 blocked shots (it appears we are having trouble drawing the fouls from the big-un), and the lack of rebounds and hustle were obvious. Dang, I saw the first victory of MTSU over the VOLS ever and it happened 2 miles from my house.

Honestly, I left that game a fan of number 2, number 4 and number 10 on MTSU. Those women balled out (can you say that on the women's side? asking for a friend). We looked awful. Was up by 9 and lost by 9. What's with that?

I even listened to all three podcasts of Brian Rice today on the Eric Ainge show and no mention of his trip to Huntsville. I saw him doing the play by play and thought it'd be cool for him to give Huntsville a shout - out (This really is a good place even though it's in Alabama). No mention of the game at all, but hey, IT'S A FOOTBALL SHOW, right?

GO VOLS FOREVER.

Yep. Not impressed by the CJH hire, but suffered through the first year ever hopeful. His offensive numbers did intrigue me and lead me to believe contention was possible. We’ll see moving forward with “scrabble” at QB.

Not saying that doesn't make sense and as I said, I dread another long slow death march of an LVFL. But it isn;t going to happen that soon, and certainly not during the season, unless KJH resigns. That's just not how it's done.

Doesn't mean he can't go ahead and put preliminaries in motion for considering the next hire and I think he should. But anything public is only going to be supportive of KJH IMO.
I think you are right unless the wheels were totally come off -- losing streak continues into the SEC conference. I don't think that will happen but it is now a realistic worry. Crucial weeks ahead...

Unfortunately Coach Harper has to be replaced. The LV will end up with the worst season in decades. Out of the HoopsGurlz list of the top 100 women basketball players, Harper has only been able to recruit one in the past 3 years....that player came to Tennessee, played only 3 or 4 minutes per game and after 2 years left the program. At the moment Kara Lawson now has coaching experience and would be a good possible replacement and have Timika Catchings as an assistant as well. Something must be done to restore our LV program.
And what do you think would be done differently? They were all coached exactly the same way. Only differences Kelly has about 18 more years experience then Kara and Tamika has no coaching experience. Kara's team will struggle this year tremendously in her third year. Her teams so far have not even shown they can run an offense and score a points.

You know, that's a great suggestion. Pay her enough and she would probably do it. I think it would have to be a lot since she's had such success with the Aces. To step down from the WNBA to college basketball, but money talks. If she can't build a program I don't know who can.
Everyone did notice what Stephanie white did with Vanderbilt right? Notice she's back up in the WNBA and doing just fine.
