KIFFIN ONLY HAS TWO LOI's?! - Yeah, not really.

I now regret clicking over to this thread...just about lost my lunch.

So where was that caliber of candidate three weeks ago?

Assuming they'll be available, who is that caliber next year?

They weren't there, that's why you hire an interim coach.

See what Whittingham and Calhoun do. Maybe they show they are ready to try a step up. Maybe Kevin Sumlin or Randy Edsall do the same. You never know which college coach going to be looking for a fresh start or what NFL coach might be available.

You would actually like Calhoun?

Money talks bullsh*t walks. Hammy simply dropped the ball on this one. We should have made more aggresive offers.

Is Patterson really content to stay at TCU? Seems like he has no interest in other offers.

Would it be safe to say that Kiffin could recruit but he could not coach or manage it and that he was self serving

Would it be safe to say that Fulmer just lost it. Drive and recruiting

Would it be safe to say that the jury is still out on this one. But Chaney and Thompson are quality coaches and the rest of the staff Hinshaw, Bagget, C Smith, Russell are good hires.

If you surround yourself with good people you might just be successful. Not sure about the DC but I know that he will be interesting.

If they can lead and coach I do not care where they came from. Kiffin could not coach, ED O, couldn't either. Monte has a great defensive mind is full of BS and probably could not relate as well as we thought.

Fulmer and staff was stuck. Mediocrity. Lost it.

Do not know who is right or wrong but I cannot judge what is going to happen with this team with CDD when he has only been on the job for less than 20 days. Right now he did what he was initially hired to do stabilize the recruiting and hire a staff. Done for the most part.

Hey if we don't like him, Screw him to death and get another one but right now is not the time to past judgment. Because he has done what we are paying him to do. Hard to judge someone on ability when they have done what you asked with decent performance to date at UTK. Just because I did not meet your standards somewhere else is no indicator of how I will do here with a completely different set of tools to do the job.

Are you serious? Calhoun straight up turned UT down.

And Kevin Sumlin? Really?

When did Lane Kiffin coach at Louisiana Tech? Oh, that's right. His services were valued enough that he never had to coach in a fourth rate slum program like that. Then again, having employment options is a concept foreign to you. The hiring of janitors isn't terribly competitive.

Come on, hat. Even you cannot seriously think that Kiffin did not luck into every opportunity he's had since Monte begged Carroll to hire him.

I'll give you this, you are entertaining. So if that's what you are going for, well done.

Dooley may do okay in recruiting, but our coaching staff in general took a huge downgrade.

geez louise, hat and stuff like this are driving me crazy.

Monty seemingly had no clue what to do against Auburn, and when Ol' Miss started running similar plays, they ran all over us.

Wilcox totally shut down two of the top offenses in the country. He's anything but clueless when it comes to the spread.

Offensive line coach put EVERY starter he had in the NFL?

Chaney is back. Thompson is back.

Give it a rest! If you're right, it will be obvious soon enough. What's the point in trying to drag everyone down in the mean time? You can't change anything. Man I'd hate to be at a party with you.

Edsall would be a nice hire, but no better than Dooley, and far worse if we went by your plan and waited until December '10 to make yet another hire.

Seriously...if a company hires and fires three CEO's three consecutive years, what will it's stock do? PLUMMIT. How is that a smart plan, when considering this particular position markets to 18 year old kids who change their mind every five minutes??

Your heart is in the right place, but your head is somewhere farther south.

you also forget that the Kiffins played florida and bama close. so the Kiffins were a much needed upgrade from Fulmer and co.

Calhoun turned Tennessee down when they came begging a few days after Kiffin left. Not exactly the best time to sign on with Hamilton. You can rest assured his thoughts on the issue would have been different if Kiffin had left December 1st.

Sumlin's resume is more impressive than Dooley's right now. A big year for Houston in '10 and he'll be in a BCS job.

there's a fine line between truly debating this topic and becoming so polarized on the issue that you cannot regress to the middle and listen to alternative views. unfortunately there are few "experts" here that are able to do that. for us to postulate as to why hamilton did or didn't hire the guy "we" like is pointless. it is what it is now so vol fans better come to terms with it. i often wonder when i read threads like this whether some of the self-professed experts here enjoy posting more than actually being a devoted fan of tennessee football. i wish the culture in the tennessee fanbase was more positive than it is, particularly with the recent coaching imbroglio we've experienced.

Yeah, hiring a guy suited for C-USA is the answer. If kids change their minds every five minutes, what the hell does it matter what UT did two years ago?

Yeah, but so is a Toyota from a Yugo.

Look, we basically made a lateral move when Dooley was hired after Kiffin. Yes. Lateral. The [potential] baggage the Kiffin was bringing down on UT (NCAA investigations) makes it so...but I'll admit, the work that was done with Crompton was nothing short of great coaching.

thanks for being my spell-checker. boy, do i feel put in my place.

i didn't forget anything about florida and bama, never said kiffins weren't a much needed upgrade - had next to nothing to do with my point. the point was simply that asserting we've "taken a huge downgrade" is not defensible and personally the negative bs ranting is getting old. we clearly didn't take a down-grade at OL. tbd on DL. CDD had 2 #1 classes while recruiting coordinator at LSU - Orgeron is that much better? And are people really going to get on their high horse arguing CLK's overall losing record makes him a much better coach than CDD because his head-coaching losing record was worse? How stupid can the conversation get?

just let it play out. if CDD doesn't cut it, there will plenty of time to go ape-sh!t about it later.
